I see that Sandy Lyle and Peter Alliss are to be inducted into The World Golf Hall of Fame next year. Congratulations to both who have served the game with distinction over many decades.....but then again so has Laura Davies. I read an article in a rival magazine where a columnist vented his spleen on the same issue when the this years inductees were announced last year. I am inclined to agree with his views and am pretty hacked off about her omission again this year. George Bush Senior was inducted last year and all he won was a war in Kuwait. Now I understand this would have done wonders for his bunker play but I don't think he deserves a place in there just because he was a golf nut. If that were the case a few of us here would be in with a realistic shout.

Lauras 81 professional wins including 4 Majors would have had a male golfer in there pretty damn quick!

I need one of those Rant on smileys.......

(There you go)

I can't think of a female golfer of the modern era who has done more for the ladies professional game in Europe than Laura.

I agree but I wonder if she has burned some bridges stateside with her comments in th past particularly in Solheim Cups. If its on performances and not just the person then of course she should be in there but I think if they can find an excuse, particularly if its a European then they'll ignore you until its posthumous or such a big stink is kicked up and they are shamed into inducting them

Looking at the recent inductees it seems pretty random when you get inducted. Definitely a US bias but only to be expected I guess.

I'm sure she''ll be inducted sometime. Would be thoroughly well deserved.

Inducting George Bush just seems plain weird though.

I remember in one of Bob Rotella's books he said the LPGA hall of fame was difficult to get into because of the qualifying conditions, but once they'd been met induction was almost guaranteed, so I've just looked and found this.

LPGA point system

LPGA Tour golfers are eligible through a point system. Since 1999, LPGA members automatically qualify for World Golf Hall of Fame membership when they meet these three criteria:
  1. Must be/have been an "active" LPGA Tour member for 10 years.
  2. Must have won/been awarded at least one of the following - an LPGA major championship, the Vare Trophy or Player of the Year honors; and
  3. Must have accumulated a total of 27 points, which are awarded as follows - one point for each LPGA official tournament win, two points for each LPGA major tournament win and one point for each Vare Trophy or Rolex Player of the Year honor earned.
Before 1999, players had to win 30 tournaments, including two majors; 35 tournaments with one major; or 40 tournaments in all to automatically qualify. At one time, players had to win two different majors to qualify with 30 wins, but this was changed earlier in the 1990s.

Does Laura Davies meet that criteria?

I seem to recall she's a couple of wins short or something like that.

Crazy really when Bush can get in but "Our Laura" can't.

Maybe we should start a campaign within GM..!

So basically it's another Americanism in that it's not a World Golf Hall of Fame at all but a PGA/LPGA load of bollox.

I nominate Laura Davies as the First ever inductee into the Golf Monthly Forum's Hall of fame.

Now all we need is a set of ridiculous criteria to keep our list as 'exclusive' as the other one, a venue to hold the ceremony and some snacks. I also nominate Homers missus to provide the weetabix cake.....

European male/ female should keep it fairly exclusive......

Big Laura should get in for her living room alone, she's my kind a gal! (hear me out!!!)

I remember reading an article on her in one of the golf magazines and it had a picture of her in her house sitting on the sofa surrounded by 5 or 6 massive big TV's. She says she's such a sports fanatic that she usually can't decide what to watch so she has different sporting events on each telly while she sits and keeps an eye on them all.

Brilliant.
