Decided that I have pretty much got to where I can by myself so decided that I didn't really NEED to replace my black superfast 4 hybrid with a white one just to match my other one :o so I decided the money would be better spent on lessons instead.

All in all, it was very encouraging. The pro had a look at me hitting some shots and basically said that I have pretty decent fundamentals and when I'm hitting my better shots, I have a good swing with a decent plane. Apparently my turn is inconsistent in that sometimes I get a good shoulder/hip turn and other times I cut it short, come down too early and that's where it tends to go wrong.

He asked me about what I was thinking when making swings and my ideas about what I needed to do and he was pleased with my answers about weight shift and spine angle. He also looked at my stats and noticed that in my last 20 rounds I have hit 50% fairways, but less than 20% greens, which shows that my iron play is in need of work.

He had me working on getting a full shoulder and hip turn and nice tempo in the swing and I noticed an immediate improvement, particularly with my 5 iron, which has always been a problem club.

It's still ropey in places, but I really seemed to click with the pro and found myself immediately trusting what he said. This is different to what I have had before with other pros, which may be part of the reason I have put off having lessons.

I have another lesson in 2-3 weeks to see how things are going. But I am feeling really positive about it. I hit another basket of balls after the pro left and found myself starting to get into a groove with it. My irons were going much straighter than they were before and I was getting a lot more consistent contact.

Best bit was when the pro reckoned that with a little work, I should be able to get down to about 12 without and major swing changes, only minor tweaks. :D Chuffed to bits and can't wait to get out and work on it some more.

Swing thoughts for the week: TURN and TEMPO!

Meh! Went down to the course today and had a bucket of balls on the range, working on what I was told in my lesson. Big improvement in ball striking etc. Went out on the course and can count on one hand the number of even adequate shots I hit with a full swing! :(

Ah well, I shall persevere. I know it's just needing bedding in and all that. Just frustrating that it was working so well on the range. On the plus side, I still managed 34 pts, due to my short game being really quite good today. Only one 3 putt and a number of up and downs and a sand save.

The telling stats were 33 putts but 0% (yes, that's ZERO per cent) GIR.
