my GF bought me a groupon driving experience for my 40th bday. 3 laps in 3 cars (3 laps per car so 9 total).

Anyway, went on Wednesday to North Weald Airfield, to say it was monsoon conditions driving through St Albans after picking up the gf would be an understatement. I was not feeling overly confident of even being able to get out in the cars at this stage.

So we arrived and the weather had eased to cloud and the odd ray of sunshine. I then got to choose my 3 cars out of -
Aston Martin DB9
Audi R8
Lamborghini Gallardo
Porsche 911 GTS
Ferrari 430
Maaserati Gran Tourismo

I went for the R8, DB9 and Lambo (was going to go ferrari but so did everyone else and was told it would be a long wait so the DB9 was chosen instead)

A 5 minute briefing and then the wait begins, names get called out and suddenly its mine 'Steve Gibbs... go and get in the R8 please'

This car is awesome, it was an Auto and the instructor said as we eased onto the track and the 1st straight 'go on, floor it!' wholly **** this thing was like a rocket, the brakes were immense aswell after I nearly dislocated my shoulder into the 1st bend.

I got out with the biggest smile on my face ever :)

next up was the DB9 and after the R8 it felt heavy and slightly dissappointing (I know, its still an awesome car but was a bit pants in comparison lol)

finally 'get in the Lambo please' and omg, the power was immense, it was a manual which had me slightly intimidated but to be fair once it got into 2nd there wasnt enough straight for 3rd!!!

at the end I was pee'd off as I hadn't looked at the rev counter or speed dial once in any of them and could barely remember what the dashboards even looked like. I literally just put pedal to the metal, steered and felt like a kid at christmas.

total cost was £129 and I enjoyed it so much I plan to do it again.

As my GF said, I have never seen so many blokes smiling like cheshire cats all in one place :D

theres a few R8's on ebay for 40k +.... if you can afford one then go for it. I would

Superb,I did touring car thing at Donnington a while back and it was great,I was *** scared though, the guy kept telling me to floor it but I was going fast enough as it was thank you!!

I know, trouble is I grew a pair of nuts by the time my 3 laps were over :(

if there was 1 negative it was that it was a coned track and not massively long. I would happily pay 3 times as much to be on a full track though.

When I read the title i thought it was a lesson for you with a driver, maybe a custom fit...

Sounds like it was a good day mate....

no restriction at all gripit, as many revs as you like, they just said floor it, hard on brakes, power on through turns etc. 1 bloke stalled the ferrari as he hit the accelerator as he got in (they have them started up as some have quirky start up procedures), it sounded immense though :)

Sounds great Gibbo.

My son and I had a driving experience bought us a while ago but we just haven't got round to booking it yet.
Both in a Nissan GTR.

there was a 13 y/o lad there, his 1st car was the ferrari, never seen a lad with a wider smile ever :)

going to do something similar for me and my 2 boys, bit of male bonding :)

It'll blow your mind. These things are scary scary quick. It looks pretty tame walking up to them but I've never been put back into a seat so hard in any car I've driven.
Like a pussy cat to drive too but when you floor it. WOW!

highlight of the day was they had an Atom, 3 laps as a passenger (which I passed on) jeez that thing was scary quick and twitchy as hell. Every bloke who got out was shaking their head, smiling and patting the driver on the back.

Got to love a bit of speed
