Greatest ever golf day?

Anytime I play for the club in scratch comp's and beat the youngsters that bomb it 40 yards past me, that always feels good.

But mainly when I get to play golf with my dad, doesn't happen enough as he lives in Yorkshire and I'm in Dorset.

My two mid 70s rounds at St Andrews and Royal Lytham St Annes. Especially the last one - played it a few months after The Open, and didn't go in one bunker! Spoilt it at the last by misreading the second shot and took three clubs too many, leading to a 6.

My old stomping ground ( and Swannys and Daveys). It wasn't Mr Royan that invited you was it ? It's certainly a track that can yield exceptional scores on occasion but does have "teeth" at times too.

Its a small world, tis be him, a nice guy. Probably outside Wife/Son, my favourite golfing company on a course(don't tell him I said that tho, as he has been know to wear earplugs when playing with me!).

Should be seeing Kevin shortly, whats you name will pass on your regards?

Your up in Lincolnshire, long way from Maldon ?

I was on HMS Montrose around the millennium time and we went in to visit Montrose for the first time. A team from the ship played a match on Montrose Links against a team made up from the Royal and Mercantile Clubs. It was one of those perfect evenings on the course, not much wind, sunny, good golf being played. I don't even remember the result, just enjoying good company on a wonderful course. The after round festivities were quite something too. Montrose remains in my top 5 courses having played it a few times since.

Back in the 90's me and another guy playing pairs matchplay against two Americans for a steak dinner :).
It was the most up and down match were we all played great golf and the outcome was decided on a 20ft put that my playing partner duly sank.

Hillside 2015 , had never met Hobbit, Pokerjoke and Rick G before and it was wall to to wall banter from start to finish, top weather and some good golf to boot .
Drive past the bunkers on 18, leave second short, shank the chip , drain the putt, top day :D

When I read your post last night Ben it actually took me a lot longer to fall asleep it brought back lots of good memories, and as you said a very good day in perfect company:thup:

My first round on the Old Course is up there with my greatest days golf. Also shot 8 over, including a lip out with a chip from the long rough behind the 18th. had about fifteen spectators breathing down my neck.
Highlight was hitting driver over hell bunker, after caddie said to lay up. Solid three putts for par.

First time on The Old Course with my Grandad. I'd worn him out going round the Balgove in the evenings for years with him teaching me, progressed to the Eden and I still remember him telling me we were going to play The Old Course, better than Christmas

More recent would be the SAOL trophy where I went round in +2 and +1 on the day (I think) and still came second to some bandit from Leicestershire

Hard to pick one day out of many wonderful ones on a golf course.

What springs to mind for me are the two or three times as a teenager I and my dad drove off in the vauxhall viva to Fife or Ayrshire for a few days playing Muni's, staying in B&B's and eating fish suppers. Simple times but I look back with such good memories on that now that he's no longer with us. Of course as a 15 year old muppet I didn't appreciate then what a precious time it was.

Sounds great,Ian-I wish my arl fella played.

Yeah, not 100% sure but it was either level or 1 over after doubling the first. I never had a sniff of winning the OOM though as I'd had a pretty pants season lololol Can you remember if we were off the yellows or white tee's at Wallasey ?

Great day that

Val will probably remember, but if anyone asks us, we'll say the whites. Deal?:D

Just remembered my day that trumps the lot

My brother got married at St Pierre so I booked a round on the Sunday morning

Played with my Dad , my wife and my uncle. Had one nephew caddying for me and one for my wife.

It was brilliant - my dad always used to play with his best mate who sadly passed away and he hadn't touched clubs since despite my mothers attempts. After the day he is now going to the range regualry and going to join a club - can't wait to drive down to play more often with him

+1 +1 = 11 million!

Golf at its best. Competitive but without losing sight of how to enjoy life. That first par 3... wow!

For me, like so many, that's almost too many years to choose from. Whether its golf with my dad in the 60's & 70's, or scratch league comps against some top players in the 80's, 90's, 00's. And then, just occasionally, rounds that hold a flash of fading brilliance, e.g. subbing for our pro in a scratch match against challenge tour pro and then beating him comfortably.

More recently, its been the friendships and rounds at some great courses with forumites. The 7 birdie round at one of the Cooden Bay outings, followed a few weeks later with a 2 under gross in a Medal, winning by 4 shots.

But that one shot that is so vivid in my memory. My last match with my dad. The par 3 last hole, and a 3 iron that hit the centre of the green leading to a 1 up win. "Aye lad, best stick to football."

For me it was my round at the old course
Got round in 79 which I would of took teeing off with the lack of golf I've played
Lots of greens but in reg and lots of putts but really enjoyed it
Can remember every shot but now and again go back on my game golf and have a look

Cracking thread.

Best golf day was this year when, after years of playing all over the place on my old man's dime, I was able to take him and my uncle to Western Gailes, his favourite course.

It was a beautiful day and all three of us played quite well, not that that really mattered. It adds to it, though.

I learned from my dad that how well you play matters less than the fact that you have the chance to play. Seeing the joy on his face as he got to go round there one more time was the whole reason to take him in the first place.

Hillside last year in the "Race to Hillside" climax was great, if just for seeing Alan Hansen getting his dues for being a "Bertie BB" while his mate Dalglish was a brilliant. Great course, great company. Not quite sure it's my greatest ever but definitely in the top ten

First round at trump on the meet this year. Great course I'd always wanted to play, great company, decent weather and I played relatively well for me . Close second was a round on the Hotchkin with 2 school mates I'd known for 40 years. We went out first thing on a lovely autumn morning and there was no one behind or in front of us . Gorgeous .

The last round I played with my Dad & Brothers, at a quiet & beautiful Frilford Heath - it was the only time we've played golf together as adults, and remained that way as Dad became ill and passed away not long after. The golf was rubbish, but we shared stories, mocked each other, and generally had a great time.

If it was from a purely golfing perspective, it would be the round at Swinley Forest, with JamesR and 2Blue - incredible day.
