Quite simply, what is the best day you have ever had on the golf course?

Beating one of the club pro's 2 and 1 on the Kings Course, Gleneagles will stick with me for a long while

The last day I played with my brother before he moved to Australia. We took about 5 hours on an empty course. Caddied one another, competed hard, got smashed and has fun. I won.

5/6 years ago at Bearwood Lakes
I won a GM comp to partner our esteemed Editor, a bigwig from Nevada Bob's and a certain Mr D. Howell in a 5 hole scramble against 3 other teams captained by Soren Kjeldsen, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Henrik Stensen.
1 drive each minimum. And we were filmed off the first tee with 40 or so onlookers....truly buttock clenching!
Di Stewart, as she was then, was interviewing for Sky Sports too
My drive counted on the first (10th) and we birdied that. Howeller smoked one up the next to set up another birdie and we parred in from there.
Mike had to hit the final tee shot on the 14th over the water and put in a hollow back left. He chipped into the lake, as did the NB guy and Howeller came up 10 feet short. I put my chipping hat on and stiffed it to a foot - Howeller was most impressed.
Interview with Di, buggy back to the ranch for drinks and dinner and prize giving.
And we won!
Got to meet and chat to the other Captains too.
Fantastic day!

Knaresbrough, last day of a 3 day golf trip. Best 18 holes I've ever played. I won big on the skin's comp the 4 of us were playing, including 2 golfers much better than me normally. All finished off by me getting a par, net birdie, on a really good last hole, winning another 4 skins, with a chipped approach shot which was probably my best ever shot. 80yds out, allowing for a big swing on the green, which I had seen and played for. The ball came to rest 2" from the hole. Great day and I love going back there.

Hillside 2015 , had never met Hobbit, Pokerjoke and Rick G before and it was wall to to wall banter from start to finish, top weather and some good golf to boot .
Drive past the bunkers on 18, leave second short, shank the chip , drain the putt, top day :D

First comp I ever played was captains day with me brother. First time I had ever played a round with him. Other PP was an ex lady captain. I was proper focused and gutted when I blobbed the 9th. But played a stonking back nine. on the 16th me bro started suggesting a few bits and bobs and lady captain told him to shut his cake hole, and told me to carry on doin what I was doin.
coming down the par five 18th, I knocked in a five footer for two points and counted up. 42 points I was ecstatic. I knew I was getting a good cut. They checked my card, double checked and triple checked. I asked what's goin on, they said you could of won it. I laughed, and said am more bothered about the cut. Didn't know what SS was then, and kept asking about me cut.
Got to the clubhouse and was informed I was winning it. At that point me back end went. an hour later I was told I had won it and had to give a speech. Didn't know about the significance of the victory at that point, but seeing my name up in gold letters every time I go in is fantastic.
That and Anahita last December in Mauritius.

Playing the Centenary final at Forest of Arden and being tantalisingly close is right up there, especially given my form at the time. Shooting level par gross for the first time at Wimbledon Common right up there as well

Getting to play with Christy o Connor jnr twice , luckily played brilliantly the twice including an eagle 2 on the 2nd ..

It was a scramble , 3 drives each etc , we were sponsoring the event so couldnt win it but shot -10 on both occasions ..

RIP Christy a short but enjoyable friendship even if i never did get to play your beloved Galway Bay with u ..
.
Centenary Final was a good day , very nervous on first tee with Mike Jezz & Kevin Murray there taking photos , they had video set up on one of the holes aswell ,never did see the vid tho

2, but for different reasons.

I was invited by a neighbour to put a team together for a team round-robin for the society they were in. I said at the beginning that if we got through to the final that the players who scored the most would get picked, as only 4 out of 8 could play in any one week. We got through to the final and even though one of our guys was normally a flaky player, he was the fourth best points scorer, so stuck to my promise and still picked him, even though he did offer to stand down for others.

We closely won it by half a point, and was made up for us to win it as a team, and I think he was made up that I still picked him. It is a little bit more satisfying winning a team comp.

Winning the North west forum order of merit.

I was going into it as the leader, but all still to play for. My "friends" on here were caning me the night before on whats app saying I was going to bottle it etc.

I was that focussed that I had hardly done a practice swing before teeing off in the last group, as it was in reverse order. Cue a horrible 150 yard dunted hybrid of the tee, that was a horrible shot. Most people go into the 1st green at Wallasey with a wedge or a 9 iron, but I had another hybrid in from 185 yards, Cue an up and down for birdie from there to settle my nerves.

I went on to birdie 3 of the first four holes, iirc and had my first competition "under par" round, as I went round in 1 under gross.

It was more relief than anything, but to do it under pressure was great, even though Junior also had a fantastic day, I managed to hold him off. The NW OOM still hasnt gone outside of Liverpool, or the famed halls of Lee park........:D

Good thread.

Possibly the 2 and half rounds of Ferndown with three mates on a glorious sunny summers day. We played in the morning - had lovely lunch - played in the afternoon - more food - and it was such a lovely evening an we'd so enjoyed ourselves that we went out for another 9 holes :)

That or the morning round of the old Gleneagles Princes course followed by lunch in Auchterarder and then a round of the Kings in the afternoon - for £13 for the day. Around 1982 I think.

2 for me,
1st was a few years back playing in a family event in honour of a brother who died when he was 21, had tried a few times but never got close, 2010 it all came together and I managed to win, still treasure the picture of my Dad presenting me with the Cup.

2nd was working as a Marshall on 16th at Medinah and the Final sunday, listening all morning to Yanks telling me how USA was going to humiliate Europe and how as the day unfolded they went quiet and we got louder, then to be on the 18th fairway 30yds from the green when Kaymer sank the putt was incredible.

My greatest day ever was 11 holes then it got dark.
Casual bit of matchplay v a on old guy of 6, it was not even close..

Front nine

6 birdies
1 eagle
1 par
1 bogey

Birdie 10
Birdie 11

9 under for 11 holes (33 shots)

I do not know who possessed me that day, but I would like a return.
It was great, even played through a group of my pals on the 7th and made a 2 on it (200 yard ish par 3)

Greatest hole

Had been trying to set up a game for months with a pal of mine who played a public course, we played Craigmillar park in Edinburgh. I was obviously going to be the better golfer, cat 1 v his shooting 90s and he was a bit nervous about being beaten too badly.

I had to coax him out to the club, we had never played before, first hole knocked it to 12 feet and made the putt, stick me down for an eagle mate... Only 2 i ever made on that hole, timing could not have been better!

Got to be Wimbledon Common this time last year - a gross 74, (6 over par and 13 better than handicap). Included a 5 on the second last where the wheels nearly came off. Drive was smashed so far into the woods, even the bears wouldn't find it. Three off the tee to fairway, 7iron to a foot and a tap in.

Jeez it feels good when it happens.

I hope my greatest ever golf day is yet to come, but in the mean time, my first ever double-bogey-free round on Sunday is pretty high up the list. I was very nervous on the last hole (8th hole, par 4, stroke index 2 at Royal Winchester). Playing into the sun I knew I'd struck the approach well (5 iron from the semi-rough) but neither me or my PPs saw where it went and it wasn't obvious when we got to the green. Found it in a greenside bunker close to the back lip and managed to chop down steeply and get it onto the green. 2 putts and I'd achieved one of my targets for the year. Post-match beers went down very well. :)

Winning H4H at West Hill

Not just for the significance of the day but for the golf I played too. I think I was off 10 h/c that day and only remember one poor shot, a missed short putt on a par 3. I remember looking at the second shot to the 18th and thinking that a rescue club was right for the distance but I'd hate to put it into the clubhouse window, dropped to one of the sweetest 4 irons I've ever hit and secured par with a good 2 putt.

I think I finished with 41 points and I remember Jezz Ellwood from GM saying, as we walked off the green, that score should win - and me saying that someone will get 45 points, and he said that wasn't going to happen at West Hill and how right he was.
