Grand Canyon Crash

The BBC lunch time news carried a live report on the death of 3 brits in this incident, it might even have been the first item.This is sad beyond imagining for the famiies and friends.
The last statistics that I have been able to find show that about 17,500 people are killed every year in the UK in what we would call accidents - vehicles, fires, falls, industrial, poisoning and many more. This being the case, why do three fatalities in the USA top the BBC news?

Morbid fascination by bored public and ratings for news channels is what drives this kind of news reporting I'd guess, else they wouldn't do it.
Something to do with it being an aircraft accident (people have inherent fears of that) and in an exotic location by holidaymakers always trumps other kinds of 'duller' domestic work or road accidents it seems in terms of news reporting.

RIP to those killed and speedy recoveries to those injured.

Sad news, I flew with the company involved in the crash last year, they were very very good. Hope the survivors pull through.

Aircraft accidents are almost always news worthy, as they are so rare.

Also Grand Canyon helicopters are a very popular tourist excursion.

Myself, my girlfriend and my 2 best friends have all done it on separate trips to Las Vegas in the past few years.

It hasn't topped the news, oxfam workers abusing women in Haiti topped the news. The fact that an helicopter slammed into the Grand Canyon may have summat to do with it. It is no differant to a sea plane slamming into waters in Austaralia which happened a month ago. Ironically, it was reported today that said Victims drowned and were not killed on Impact. Not nice to think about.
Same as the Scotish guy who is missing in Hamburg on his brothers stag night. Why is it reported? No one has been killed yet? Just not nice to think about.
Have been on a copter trip in the Canyon and its was fantastic and I would do it again. What happened to them poor sods don't bear thinking about.

These pilots are very well trained ,but the news was almost trying to say conditions were to poor to fly, with very high winds.
Helicopters and high winds in a canyon where winds swirl around dosnt sound to safe.
I think they also reported on the time it took to get to the survivors because of the bad weather.

It sounds like it should not have taken off.

Sad news for the families, nobody expects to lose someone on holiday.
