GPS in Competition Question

I used the Sonocaddie V300 today for the first time. It was also my first round of the year, so lots to think about! The yardage info seemed pretty much spot on, although couldn't account for the one or two temp greens still in use. There was the odd occasion that we stood on the tee thinking, that's got to be more than 175yds etc, but in the end, I think the Sono had it right every time compared with our "seasoned" eyes.

I didn't make the most of the shot tracking features and frequently forgot to register my shot, maybe exacerbated by it being clipped to my bag and not my belt. But I'll stick with it and hopefully get to the stage where I can use the playback to feed a bit more into my tracking software than just gross scores.

Despite the inevitable ribbing I got when it first came out, everyone was soon asking for yardages for their shots! Says it all really IMHO.

The only thing the Sono needs now is a Mac version of the software :(
Otherwise, entirely happy with my choice and I can vouch for it being snow proof ;)

Unfortunately, the round left a lot to be desired.

Fragger eventually got off the fence and purchased a Skycaddie
should arrive Thursday,
then a crash course on how to use the chuffing thing before the weekly trouncing from Imurg (with his old irons) :D

Good. Means you won't keep asking me for a distance!!

Seriously though, it'll be interesting to see the yardages side by side to see if there's any discrepancy.

I never use my Shotmiser as I feel like I am cheating due to only one other member using one.

You must feel a total prat then - spending all that money on something that is perfectly legal (local rules permitting) to use, and then not using it!! :D :D

I assume then that you never use the on-course yardage markers and pace out from them, or use printed "stroke savers"; just in case your fellow players don't?

So there is just you and one other player using one then? Get real. Just how many of these GPS devices do you think have been sold in this country? 2?? :D

Give me strength

this is giving ammunition to the 'ban them because not everyone can afford one' brigade.

not every can afford the latest clubs or to use premium balls either - don't see these being banned or not used do you?

I have to agree it begs the why did you buy it question. I'm the only person I've seen using one in my club competitions but I know its been passed as a local rule and so will continue to do so until I'm told otherwise. I'm all for getting as much advantage as I can.

What next? Ban players who've had tuition to improve as it isn't fair their game is getting better

I didn't buy it, I won it in a online competition a year or so ago.
