Government advisor steps down

Indeed. There are numerous examples of public figures who have broken the rules but remain in their jobs. Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish anyone??
Walker and Grealish are not setting the rules though. This guy was front and centre in the modelling which suggested lockdown. He is breaking his own rules.

I'm not excusing those two by the way but it is different.

You’ll have to remind me what Government role Grealish and Walker are currently advising on?
None. But so often we’re told, particularly by the tabloids, that sportsmen are role models and therefore have a responsibility to do the right thing.

The Government have got rid of this guy, if Villa or City want to sack them two, that’s up to them.

Don't know, guess that's why I posted this thread.
In this case it is being in a position of responsibility and ignoring the advice you’re handing out.
In Jenrick’s case it was his boss accepting his reason, the Footballers? Idiots and because of the actions of a few they lost all credibilty a few years back.

Looks like case by case tbh.

Don't know, guess that's why I posted this thread but it seems the default position is to remove the person from office.
To be fair if I was setting rules that I expect the entire workforce let alone nation to abide but then broke those rules to shag a married woman I'd expect to have to stand down or be sacked as well.

It simply doesn't compare to anyone else you can't be the creator of a rule and then not abide by it yourself.

Why should he have stricter code of practice than an mp, we have a minister who visited 2nd home over 100 miles away and parents 40 miles away.
We have other ministers accused of all sorts including bullying and breaching ministerial code.

Is a scientist using the do as I say not as I do rule worse than MPs doing wrong?

Possibly because of the reason, I didn’t accept Jenrick’s excuse as reasonable, but he wasn’t having an affair.

I don’t believe the scientist would of been forced resigned if he’d of claimed to of been taken medicine to his parents, Jenrick would of been sacked if he’d of been caught having an affair.

Jumped before he was pushed?
I'm sure a university scientist who has been undertaking his research for years hasn't particularly enjoyed the increased media scrutiny all of his advice has garnered and then having them doorstepping you probably made his mind up for him. What's the point for him, he'll just go back to his day job and we'll be an integral expert down.

I agree, hence the question mark at the end, plus he won’t have “sacked.....” on his CV.

The affair element is immaterial; he broke lockdown rules by travelling unnecessarily. I don’t remember seeing anywhere that sex was particularly more off limits than anything else.

Jenrick excuse was delivery of medical supplies & essential to parents. Whether it's true or not is debatable personally i don't believe it but does fall within valid reasoning of a point to travel.

Ferguson reason for breaching to have sex with someone else's wife! Let's be realistic here which one of those breaches is more of a a valid requirement, it certainly isn't the one where the only potential benefit is a quick fumble.

So the affair in this instance is not immaterial at all, because its the affair that caused the breach.

To be pedantic, he actually didn't travel anywhere. The reports say she came to his place.
