Went for a game yesterday afternoon and was browsing the pro shop before my playing partner arrived. Immediately noticed a set of Cleveland CG reds, 3-PW, S300's at a very affordable £149 and thought I'm having those!
Pro let me take a couple of clubs out with me, really liked them to hit, more solid than my LT2's.
Anyway they are in very good nick and I'm happy with a good deal (from a proshop!!). Solid players club with a bit of forgiveness. Lower flight which is good too. They were the result of a recent trade-in.
Old TM's now on fleabay.

Does anyone else buy golf gear in this fashion - i.e. totally impulsively, no custom fit etc?

Yes, have never been custom fitted for anything. Much prefer trying numerous clubs myself and going with what feels right and flies.

Forgot to add they're the 5th iron set I've had this season! :o I only ever own one set however, I dont keep the old ones.

Cleveland are doing a deal on irons at the moment. If you buy a new set, they will replace them when they release new models in about 2 years time.

You can get new CG Reds for about £300, so you may have got a bum deal i.e. £300 for two new sets, or £150 for one second hand set?

Dont quite get this. Are you saying if I buy a new set of CG reds now then in two years Cleveland will replace those with a brand new set of their current model for free which would normally cost probably £400+?

Sounds like a quick way to go out of business!

Whatever, £149 less my £52 on the proshop winnings book less what I'll get for the TM's (hopefully £80) and less the cleveland 3 iron which I dont need, then over the piece I'm not really out of pocket.

I'm not one for splurging big bucks on golf, tend to wheel and deal on the 2 or 3 year old stuff under £200, except wedges that need to be new really.

Not quite - you have to trade you CG irons in to get the new ones. I was suprised by the deal and was tempted to get the CG7 golds, but tried my Srixon Forged and preferred them.

Good clubs though....used by Boo Weekly!

Sounds like a good deal to me.Looked at the CG Reds when I changed, nice looking clubs but ended up with the more forgiving TM's.Pro shop money and Ebay cash you'll have upgraded for next to nothing.

The buy wasn't absolutely out of the blue. The issue was I had the £52 on account at the shop from sweep and 2's money so I'm looking around thinking what I'll buy seeing as season is about over and I can't top that sum up by more than a few quid with only one comp left.
Didn't fancy any bags, balls, sweaters, shoes or t-shirts. Looked at putters but very high prices on Pings and limited range. Relations with my Rife putter are quite cordial at present too so no need to change really.
Saw the Cleveland irons and mind was practically made up. After clocking a couple of tidy 7 irons out on the course the decision was made. :D
