This is correct, Golfspin are NOT authorised Skycaddie dealers, they import GPS devices in themselves (grey goods) thus you are not as protected as other official UK authorised GPS suppliers.

Does it change if i want the garmin? Or is it the same?

Anything that is imported when their is already an authorised dealer in the UK for that same brand will not guarantee you the same protection as if you purchased it through them, trying to save a few pounds could cost you the whole purchase price when the seller who has imported the goods doesn't want to know!

There is a lot of history out their of poor service with Golfspin along with the many other names it has traded under over the years, price isn't everything when weighing up certain items, you need to consider the customer service and after-sales levels you may need!

Website looks remarkably similar - and the phone number matches - to one that a Mark Cottrell (based at Painswick Golf Club) used for similar deals. He has a pretty poor reputation for service elsewhere.

I wouldn't use it - and I have no qualms about using grey imports!

I'd say from what Fish says then for 20 quid it's not really worth it. Especially if you are dealing with someone who has traded under lots of different names, and also from what I can see does not have an address listed anywhere on the site.

I've had to send my Skycaddie back a couple of times. This did go directly to skycaddie, but I'm sure they did ask for proof of purchase.

I recently bought my bushnell v3 from them. I live near so collected. Are based at Painswick Golf Club (small club but effectively the pro shop).

No problems and all seemed fine (but I guess I do have the advantage of being able to rock up in person if I needed to if there were a problem so added piece on mind that way).

Simon.

There's a large thread that's been running on Golfmagic for quite some time about Marc Cottrell and the service (or lack of) from his various companies. Avoid at all costs.

Oh dear, does look like a sad story. Feel like I dodged a bullet a bit. Also lucky laser doesn't need web updates or other contact so provided it keeps working I should be fine.

This seems seriously dodgy!

I follow Steve from Skycaddie on Twitter and he is alerting everyone that Golfspin in NOT an authorised Skycaddie distributor.

It would seem that this company along with other names it has used such as Golfgps, thecaddy.co.uk and Painswick Golf Club Professional have all traded out of Painswick Gloucestershire and import direct from America and have surfaced again quite aggressively and are at the top of a lot of searches pushing new models of GPS very cheaply!

Whilst that is not illegal, you are only covered by the UK Sales of Good Act which is no good if he (I believe Marc Cotterell) were to close down (liquidate) and set up again under a new limited company name, in that case you would have no manufacturers warranty to fall back on as they are deemed as 'Grey Goods' and not distributed via an authorised UK dealership!

If you sent anything back to them, it is unlikely they would return the goods to the USA and if they did, it would most certainly fall outside of what is deemed to be a 'reasonable amount of time', so with that said, and with what I have read elsewhere, this company does not operate well within our UK laws of sales.

I have done a search on other boards and it seems there is a lot of history of poor service, no refunds, avoidance and the list goes on, we have all just recently seen this behaviour with another company unfortunately, so, as Steve and we all say to ourselves, 'if it looks too good to be true, it generally isn't!'

You've been warned.

He is a PGA member i would be inclined to ask why

I used them a few months ago to buy a Leupold range finder. It was a very good deal, although it took a few weeks to arrive. No complaints from me. I wasn't aware of this thread when I ordered it though!
