Was looking around at what club to join next year as new to area and was looking for any advice on which ones are decent and ones to avoid. I live in penicuik and in army as I notice few places are offering forces discount. Would be looking to join one around the Penicuik and Dalkeith area

I've played newbattle a few times which I think is near Dalkeith enjoyed it there and course has been in top condition when I've been

Spoilt for choice!!!

Kings Acre is a nice course and facility, though the 15th is an acquired taste

There are a few where it helps to have 1 leg longer that y'other in that neck of the woods though!

Come and join West Linton. We've loads of guys from Penicuik, as we're just 10 mins away. Great course and a really friendly club.

I'll be happy to take you on and show it to you, if you like.

Edit: don't know if we do a forces discount though.

completely forgot all about your course. sorry mcbroon. We pass it alot when heading south usualy on some horrible exercise. Often say im going to get down and play. Was on website and didnt see anything on membership prices etc

West linton am i correct in thinking head south from penicuik ?

I'd rate West Linton as significantly better than Kings Acre. Didn't think it was quite that close though! They are about half an hour apart. WL closer from Penicuik. KA much closer from Dalkieth!

If you follow the link in my sig, there's a 'How to join' bit down the left hand side. Normal membership is about £650 but there are reduced rates for 5 day membership, or there are tiered packages if you're under 30.

As I said, happy to take you on as a guest if you want to check it out.

When I click on the link it asks for member details McBroon. I would be looking for full membership and I am only a young 27. Would love to take you up on offer of a round however in afghan till october. If still up for it we could arrange a game when I get back. I was playing off handicap of around mid 20's last year. This was 1st year back after 10 years tho.

Get down to Peebles! :)

Straight down the road on a 62 bus (if you don't drive!) and, like West Linton, there's plenty of members from Penicuik there. Also cheaper than West Linton, our current full membership is around £480.

Will also offer to take you on as a guest to check out the course, and act as a referral for you if you decided to join. :)

Peebles was one I thought was maybe just little too far as didnt know there was bus. I do have car however wife works away 2 days a week and they would be 2 days id certainly be golfing.

The 62 service is a regular service mate, think it runs every 20-30 minutes throughout the day, and only takes about 30 minutes. Jump off at the stop opposite the Honda garage, and its just a 5-10 minute walk from there.
