Right I've finally decided to take the plunge and have my first golf lesson. After playing for a year I don't feel I can take my HCP any lower than the 20 I'm stuck at without swing improvements.

I'm thinking of having them at the range I use Lee Marston and need to know the following...

1. Can anyone recommend which pro to book with there?

2. Anyone had lessons there before?

3. Is £20 for 30 mins a decent price?

£20 is the going rate. I get 35 minutes for £20, but only because that is what I charge to coach (not golf, obviously!) and struck a deal.

There are lots of packages out there. I think our top pro (the other one) offers 4 x 45 for £99. That's £33 an hour, which is good i.m.o.

Pay the extra and have a video lesson, honestly you will never look back and you will understand what his saying a lot quicker. Well worth the extra pennies.

How would that work??? Would it be 30mins tuition and 30mins video? It's the GASP swing app that has shown me my flaws, mainly swing path is causing problems.

mine are £40 for 1hr, it goes mega quick tbh.

I have booked one for Friday to work on tee shots with driver/woods, much better value than a quick fix club change or loads of range balls ingraining bad habits tbh.

Good luck with it

Go in and chat to the pros about the lessons and what you are trying to achieve and the best way of approaching it. They may say the video is best to highlight faluts and give you visual feedback or they may just give you a look over first time.

I had a lesson about 6 weeks ago sorting my swing path out, had me drawing a peach but after a few weeks the old habits crept back in. thankfully I had a few simple drills and was able to put it all back into practice. spent a year on 28 and after that lesson have dropped 7 shots... speaks volumes tbh

Its surprising how we know our flaws, think we know what to work on then 1 lesson and given a drill or 2 and its like a revelation. If I could afford it I would have 1 a month!

I got 5 for the price of 4. I was somewhat hesitant over it, especially when I didn't feel the first 2 lessons were translating well to the course, but he basically drilled stuff into after 5 lessons and while I still don't remember everything, my game is on the whole more consistent and better when it does click. Get a little notepad if you have too and write some of the things you were working on afterwards, that helped me too.

My son had some of his county coaching there and the set up is pretty good - not sure who it was with but might have been Darren.

The price is good, I prefer half hour sessions with practice rather than repeating the advice for an hour.

I would agree with others that there is no substitute for video to complement the advice.

If however you don't get on at Lea Marston there are some brilliant coaches in the area including our own Gary Alliss (GM top 25)/Ryan Burton at Ladbrook Park, and Stuart Botrill at Shirley and Darren Murphy at Stonebridge who are both involved at county level

Yeah I've heard Darren Lewis is good but there is about 6 pro's to choose from. I'll pop in and have a chat with them and explain what I'm looking for... Basically my swing faults and drills to correct them when I'm practicing on my own.
