I'd suggest you start by your hips more. And if you take a checkpoint when you are facing about 45* and your shoulders are starting to take over the rotation, the club should be pointing horizontally and in the same direction as the rest of your alignment. The toe of the club should be pointing a tiny bit away from you (almost pointing vertically up) and your thumbs should be on top of the club in pretty much the same position they were at address.
If you practice that takeaway move a few times, you should just be able to let it flow into a good position at the top. Then also let it flow, rather than trying to swing fast, on the downswing.
