Strongest list for a while.

David Haye has to be a contender. As does Amy Williams. First Winter Olympics Gold Medal in how long?

and there's the dilemma - until you mentioned the Gold I had completely forgotten who she was. So if you do your great deed at the beginning of the year do you stand any chance at the end?

I remembered her, but more for being a good looking girl in latex. We need more of these in sport, and less Phil Taylors. Anyway, darts is a pub game. It can't be a sport if you can play it with a pint in the other hand.

Its got to be a golfer!!!

I think Faldo was the last one in 89 and you have to go back to 1957 when Dai Rees won. Personally I think G Mac has done more this YEAR than Westy, so he'll get my vote

It could be said likewise about golf as a game where you can dress like a pimp. David Haye for me as unlike so many, he at least has a personality. Would love to see Taylor win after dominating for so long as someone said earlier in the thread.

Think it will be Gmac 3rd, Haye 2nd and McCoy 1st. Not sure if it deserves to be like that although McCoy winning the national after so many attempts was great. Haye is definitely the personality in the field but has McDowell done enough in the viewing public's eye (only really fed live racing on BBC these days and not much other sport).

Team prize I think will be the Ryder Cup team although again I guess it depends on how well the cricketers are doing at the time.

Can't see them giving it to an 'at best' dubious worlds no1.
Gmac brought home the bacon this year with his major so out of the 2 I would give it to Gmac. Boxers especially world champs traditonally do well.

Agree with others that sometimes a gold medal, especially such a rare achievement as one in the Winter Olympics, tends to sway the British public.

We know the importance of the US Open win for McDowell and European golf, but the coverage and headlines would have been missed by many. OK the Ryder Cup was great for him, but it was a team event - he just happened to hole the winning putt.

I think Haye has a very strong chance simply due to the fact he has had loads of media over the last few months. Also, an seemingly 'improbable' win over Valuev.

A golfer is most likely to be a runner up IMO, and it should be McDowell.

If this bloody weather keeps up I can see us winning loads of golds in the next winter olympics.

With this logic you shoudl give it to Monty for winning the European tour every year. I thought Taylor only plays half of teh best darts players in the world because of the split organisations ?

Does anyone actually give a toss??

It's a total joke of an award anyway, that was proved when Ryan Giggs won it for doing what exactly?!

They may as well give it to a badminton player cos it means sweet F.A. anyway.

Second that, extremely tedious to sit through and pointless, very staged and stiff, they should give them a free bar to put some spark and spontaneity into the thing.
2 minutes highlights on BBC breakfast news the next day will do me. ;)
