Full shortlist has been published (in alphabetical order) it is:

Mark Cavendish
Tom Daley
Jessica Ennis
David Haye
AP McCoy
Graeme McDowell
Graeme Swann
Phil Taylor
Lee Westwood
Amy Williams

So, who will you be voting for?

think it will be gmac cos of ryder cup, bbbbuuuuuuuutttttt phil the power taylor deserves something for dominating his chosen field for sssssooooooooo long. imo

I think that this will be the year for AP McCoy. Having 2 golfers up for the award will split the vote and neither will win.

What he said..

sad but true, though I would not have thought to say it.

I went for GMac.

Im guessing Europe will be in there for team of the year what with mostly GB&I representation and Captain Monty so unfortuntately don't think Westy or GMac have much chance although, of course it isn't rigged ;) so they do have as much chance as anyone else.

I'd like to see either of the two golfers win, preferably westwood, but with neither lewis hamilton or jenson button winning in the last two years, in which they had won world championships, nothing would surprise me. It is pretty open this year too, no clear favourites surely.

Unfortunately GMac wont win it, he's not English plain and simple. I heard the list read out last night and never heard of some of them, they even had to tell us what they did, some personality they would be.
How do we vote?

GMac will get my vote.............

I have just seen that Tony McCoy (jockey) is favorite to win. [****] he's not english either.
GMac or Westwood would be more suited that a bloody jockey...........lets hope people will see sence.......

I know this is stating the obvious, but remember this is a golf forum. Of course everyone is going to have heard of the golfer, but not the cyclist, jockey, diver, heptathlete etc...

Meanwhile on the cycling forums, everyone will ponder why some guy they've never heard of, who hits a small white ball round a field with some sticks should be up there with someone who has set records in their sport.

Same with the track and field fans, wondering similarly why some of these characters are up there with their world champion.

At the end of the day it's horses for courses really.

I know that, but both guys being from here, if you asked most people from here what both guys did for a living most woulf be pushed to know what McCoy does, GMac is never off the news. We have Clarke, McDowell and McIlroy everyone from here knows all 3 guys.
McCoys home town didn't add him to their welcome sign! were as McDowell's did..............

Does anyone actually give a toss??

It's a total joke of an award anyway, that was proved when Ryan Giggs won it for doing what exactly?!

They may as well give it to a badminton player cos it means sweet F.A. anyway.

agreed the only reasons one could find to suggest that ryan giggs deserved the award, were the same reasons that suggest he would be a more worthy candidate for the “life time achievement award”

the mind boggles sometimes.

Graeme Mcdowell personally for me.

Phil
