GM League

Love the enthusiasm Mono, but I doubt this will take off for all of the above, and many more reasons.

Good luck finiding participants and a fair way of running it, but I wouldn't be playing.

I'll pass thanks.

Mono.

You enthusiasm is great, but I doubt if it will work. I'll explain.

A couple of other forumers (myself included) have been looking at how to run an order of merit table for the forum meets that are happening around the country. With the objective of having a results table.

The conclusion that I certainly came to was that it wouldn't work, and I think that was also the conclusion from elsewhere.

I spent sometime working on spreadsheets, trying to work out a formula. Allowing for how many times folks played, course difficulty, h'cap etc. It just wasn't workable.

It's a nice idea, but to be honest, I'd do as I have done, and drop it.

It's nothing personal, just impractical.

I find it quite sad the amount of abuse or mickey taking that has been leveled at mono. Cut the lad some slack, hes happy to put in his time and a bit of effort for nothing in return and doesnt deserve the constant pish leveled at him.

With regards to cheating, well in golf as on the internet you only cheat yourself, and do you know what, I couldnt care less if I come last on a forum league or first.

Course difficulty is measured by the standard scratch so there is really no need to worry that you play a more difficult course than me or the next guy.

Some of the responses on this thread are pathetic some are childish and to be honest a few on here are getting a bit to cocky for my likeing so maybe its time to cut my loses on here a pi** off to another site.

Count me in momo although due to shifts I wont be playing every week.

Handicap: 4
Course: Ranfurly Castle
Par: 70
SSS: 71

I'm with hapless on this. I've looked at an order of merit with the powers that be at GM based on regionalised events and trying to find ways of averaging it out for those that can only get to one as opposed to the guy that can play each event.

A number of problems with the oder of merit idea. How do you divide regions. We have already had big debates on south central, south cost, south east etc and I'm sure if it came down to it there would be arguments in the midlands, the north and in Scotland, Ireland and Wales

Too much work. It should be apparent already that even for GM who have the knowledge and experience, the one off Belfry event is going to take some major planning. Imagine trying to do that regularly.

Policing it. How do we know you shot what you claim. How are you going to verify the scores. How do you differentiate between two net par rounds. One played in heavy drizzle and one in a howling gale. Where do draw the line

Sorry to be so negative but I can only foresee problems and arguments. Not for me

....so maybe its time to cut my loses on here a piss off to another site.

Sorry to be pedantic, but how are you going to be part of it, if you (I won't use your eloquent language), won't be around? :D

Moi! Cocky and childish, urm!

(take it in the context it's meant) ;)

This forum will get a little more polarized as it gains more members, it's bound to happen, and as it happens I do enjoy the odd 'debate'. I don't like 'yes' men, and ultimately have respect for folks that can discuss their corner logically and thoughtfully. Even if their opinion differs from mine. I understand your reasons for sticking up for Mono, and good on you for doing so. I don't believe he has a problem with me, indeed I was one of the ones pm'ing him in his early days about how to get back in on the site after upsetting a few on here. If Mono did have a problem with me, I'd expect him to pm me and tell me to can it. As yet he hasn't. I also believe that I've tried to be helpful. Admitadly, at times it may be tongue in cheek, but I get the impression he knows that.

I hope you (TheCraw) stick around, you've been a good poster on here.

Homer, when you are playing a medal and your partner is in the left rough and you carve it way right and you head off to the right rough, how does your partner know that you got a four when he didnt see you hit your approach, how does he know you didnt use a leather wedge to improve your lie, how do you know that he didnt do likewise????

Its a bloody gentlemans game, its a bloomin internet forum league get a grip.

Golf is a game of trust and honesty!

I agree but I could do without the rebuke. I'm merely playing devils advocate and voicing an opinion as is my right on a public forum. I would hope that everyone on here would be 100% honest and claim the scores they shot but could you categorically be sure. If it isn't going to happen then what is the point in me playing my heart out to get a half decent score knowing someone will have carved it round and still claimed enough for a decent share of the points.

By the way I'm not sure I like the perceived view on my integrity. I have never cheated at golf (played with plenty that have) and it wouldn't even occur to me. If someone wants to move a ball out of my sight there is a) little I can do and b) is it really going to matter if they are carving it anyway - hardly likely to set a course record.

won't work for me, for several reasons

I rarely play Sundays,
my competition rounds are a monthly mid-week medal, and monthly society matches, which could be medal, stableford or matchplay
I play a lot of solo rounds after work

Mono did not deserve any abuse for trying to put forward an idea to help add to the forum.

Well done for trying,I applaud you but in this instance I dont think its totally workable.
