Have been on a fitness campaign and lost best part of 3 stone since Xmas, been exercising properly 3 times a week doing pilates and weights... but my golf has gone too pot.. previously could hit my driver 200-250 now i struggle to hit it 150 and always right, irons seem to have lost 10-15 yards per club.. doesnt seem to make sense to me thought it would make me better... maybe need to return to the lager and chips ... anybody any ideas or help... played today and after 5 holes seriously considered giving up !!

if you cant hit the driver past 200 yards then its the technique rather than any weight loss. theres loads of tiny juniors at our course who can hit it over 200 with ease. they are getting lessons from the pros so are hitting it correctly.

Definetly feel better .. enjoying golf no as really frustrated .. havent changed my swing / clubs etc but just dont seem to get any consistency..... suppose answer is a few lessons with a pro.. but just suprised that so quickly can go from a 13 hcap to what i would say is now 20+

sounds like your changing body shape has affected your swing. get a lesson or two and have it looked at. I remember reading an article about some low rate tennis player a few years ago and after losing nearly 2st he had to re-learn his serve.

Sure couple of lessons will see you right I did similar few years back and after few lessons not only got back on track ended up playing best golf I have ever done that summer! Great going with the weight loss and hope your game comes back soon.

Get yourself a powerball, strengthen your wrists, it will reduct their movement as you can resist the force better. Currently you may be generating more swing speeds but your wrists cannot handle it!

One of the reasons Justin Rose missed so many cuts when he turned Pro is because he grew something like 2-3 inches in less than a year and messed up his swing - there were other reasons but this was one of them.

I would imagine your swing plane has changed. If you were having to swing around a large belly before and now it's not in the way you may have subconsciously changed your swing plane. The other consideration is that you are probably more flexible now and with a larger range of motion you could be rotating further than your used to which is throwing your timing out. Stick with it and hopefully you will come out the other end a much better player.

have you played much golf since starting the weight lose program?

or have you barely been playing/practising?

i think this might ultimately answer for most of whats screwed up, but you should have no problem coming out of this trying time a much better player.

alot of people wish they could break out of their mould and learn a better more superb swing :) you have the chance. good luck

Phil

I have lost 2stone since Xmas and put on a stone of muscle. When I started out doing my weights and core muscles program my trainer said my swing would be effected by the changes to my body but ever since I have started doing it my game has improved massively. Swinging the club wat better and my core seems a lot more solid when swinging, big improvement on distance aswell.

What kind of weights training/program are you doing?
