IMHO....... we need LESS University places and MORE vocational/technical places...... somehow we've made a 180* turn from Uni being for the priveleged to a place where everyone EXPECTS a place at University..... and despite what the authorities say.... A-Levels/Highers HAVE become easier and Universities HAVE reduced their entry requirements - I think (and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong) that Uni's get their funding based on numbers attending so it's not in their interests to turn potential students away........
also - how is it possible that the A level pass rate & % of "A" grades has increased year on year for the past 20 years...... as a society are we REALLY becoming more studious/more intelligent

the country needs more plumbers & engineers and less people studying for Philosophy with Modern dance...... or is it just me?

I agree, and I said so in a previous thread. Too many Further Education Colleges and Polytechnics have been made into Universities, and Diplomas ane now Degrees to satisfy the need for "Universities For All".

Free university education, 1 good reason....

So people from poorer backgrounds get the same opportunity to try and make a better life for themselves.

And how does zero fees up front, zero fees when you're studying, and zero repayments until you're earning 21k stop anyone, from any background going to university ?

Often the loan barely or doesn't even cover the battles bill, then you've got fees and living costs - working two or three nights a week in the pub couldn't cover it.

I know that some countries have free education. Free education can be a great start for the county with low standards of living, when the population just have no money for schools and universities. But in my opinion during the growth of the whole level of county the education will become payable.
blimey are you just searching for anything on here about education?

another old tread
