Indeed farewell Tonka, as a kid -- pre internet -- I used to love military stuff. Planes, tanks, guns, ships, couldn't get enough of it.
The Tornado, like the F14 and F111 was interesting because of that swing wing technology -- something that's pretty much disappeared now -- but it was a bit characterless compared to stuff like the GE Lightning, the BAe Harrier, or the V Bombers.

A shout for the Dakota as well, what a workhorse and still in service I believe.
I was lucky enough to have 2 flights in one during my time on Christmas Island in 1958.I swear when it was running up it's engines before take off I could see rivet heads turning g on the wings .😀
The program this morning was excellent but I did miss Dan Walker who was instrumental in getting Tony his fly past. I presume as it is halfterm Dan had family commitments.

I think he is up a mountain like Kilimanjaro or Everest or the like for comic relief

Where do they keep Dakotas?

The RAF Battle of Britain Flight (BBF) owns the Dakota used in the Sheffield flypast. It also owns the only UK based airworthy Lancaster (the other only flying Lancaster is based in Canada) as well as various marks of Spitfires and Hurricanes, all based at RAF Conningsby, Lincs.
I did think that the BBC did somewhat ignore the fact that the Sheffield Memorial to the American airman had been recognised annually by the RAF Association and UK based US Air Force.

Just to correct myself a little, the correct title is the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) at RAF Coningsby

I believe that’s a bit unfair on the BBC, all this started with Dan Walker bumping into Tony in the park and hearing his story, over the past few weeks it’s been mentioned a few times how the memorial came to be there and the credit given to RAFA, all Tony has ever asked for was a flypast, he himself in interviews has mentioned what others have done.
In this particular incident we should, imo, remember the 10 Airmen and not look for fault.

According to the Beeb, its part of the Battle of Britain memorial flight. RAF Coningsby.
It is yes - you see it flying more than the others because it’s in really good flying condition even if it rattles a bit 😂

There was one going to be restored at Duxford as well

"Failed to mention," or "ignore." One suggests a deliberate act.

It was a fantastic occasion, lets not spoil it eh?
My use of “somewhat ignore” was deliberate. It does not “mean fail to mention” nor “ignore”. In my opinion the BBC did not give sufficient recognition to the previous annual memorial ceremonies.

Didn't the BoB flight used to be based at Scampton? Have they closed Scampton?
It was there for a bit but moved - The Sparrows are at Scampton now it’s closing in 2022 I think.

Think they will end up at Conningsby as well

BBMF must have been at Coningdpsby for 8-10 years now. Scampton currently hosts RAFAT but is scheduled to close in a couple of years and despite local protests , I believe it will shut. No word on where the RAFAT will relocate - my guess is Wittering.

Just read that BBMF moved to Coningsby in 1976 !

Is Waddington still going? Used to be AWACS when I lived down that way, admittedly 20 yrs ago. Crikey, when I first spent a lot of time in Lincolnshire, Binbrook was still in operation, with Lightenings I think... late 70's.
