I think he described it as making a incision in the ear drum and stick a small tube in, not something I would attempt to do DIY

Like a Gromet to drain the ear .
My son had them .
Can’t stand pain in my ears ,you have my sympathy.

Exactly as Clubchamp described, a gromet. Hugely common amongst kids growing up. Minutes to insert, you wont know it has happened or know it is there. My son had them done a couple of times before he grew and the problem resolved itself on its own.
