Just back from the hospital, having had loss of hearing since xmas.

Had a camera up the nose (not pleasant) to confirm fluid in both ears although I'm only deaf in one.
10 days of steroids to try and clear if not a minor op where they stick a tube thru the war drum to help drain ?.

Hope the tablets work ?

Is that not like blocked Eustacian tubes? I had that last year, it gave me acute ear ache and very reduced hearing in the ear concerned.
Was given something (forget what exactly) and after about 2 weeks it slowly started to ease and clear.

think so, said they naturally clear within 6-8 weeks but this is going on a bit longer and wanted to get checked out because of the chemo.

I think he described it as making a incision in the ear drum and stick a small tube in, not something I would attempt to do DIY

To try and speed up the fluid draining from the eustacian tube you could chew
Chewing gum. Each time you swallow the tube opens (at the back of the throat/mouth) chewing means you are constantly swallowing.
Don't be tempted to equalise the pressure like you do on a plane or when scuba diving.
Hopefully you won't need your ear drums to be punctured.
Good luck ??

TBH I seem to remember a similar sort of conversation as a final option as an extreme case.
Do I assume that if you hold your nose, and try blowing through it your ears hurt? That was one of the diagnosis methods of my doctor.

Potentially doing this forces the fluid/congestion/gunk back up the eustacian tube towards the middle ear (ie the other side of your ear drum)
Are you feeling dizzy or nauseous? If so it is likely they your middle ear is congested.

A grommet. 2 of my kids have had this done, its pretty simple. done under a general, and you would be home the same day. Transformed my kids! One was deaf as a post, the other kept getting ear infections. Sorted them both right out!!

No just deaf, when I listen to the Tv the Windows rattle

Had perforated ears for as long as I can remember, I was told I would have them for life. There was talk of them grafting my ear drums at one point. I went to the quacks one day and he was amazed they had all but healed up. It all started from a broken nose when I was a kid. In essence the bent nasal passages caused massive problems in the winter.I ended up having my nose rebored when I was about 22 ish. At the time I used menthol crystals in hot water with a towel over my head breathing in the vapours to help clear my blocked nose and tubes. It works a treat. When I get blocked sinuses now, it is back to the tried and trusted Me tool crystals. Give it a try.
