Flintoff Ban - right or wrong!

IF you accumulate 12 points on your license, then no matter who you are, or how much money you have, you should get a driving ban.

I got caught speeding in the USA, driving from Memphis to New Orleans, massive open road, the central reservation was as big as Kielder Forrest, dead straight road, nothing else on it, so floored the noisy pedal and was passing 120mph when I flew past the hidden patrol car.

When I stopped the copper told me that he had clocked me at 95mph which was 30mph over the speed limit, he went on to explain that my offence was an international offence and should he choose he could pass paper work back to the UK which would affect my UK license, now whether or not that was him trying to scare me is immaterial, what got me was, that he could have jailed me for 7 days and fined me $100 for every MPH over the speed limit, that would've been a $3,000 fine on top of the jail time.

Needless to say I stuck to the speed limit from there on in.

So..? Did you escape, get a ban, get away with it or what?

The US cop let me off, with a stern warning.

So leniency, and compassion, same as was shown to Freddie!

btw, i once put my car into kielder forest, A68 was a sheet of ice after not being gritted in Feb, i was not alone ( i wasn't speeding, honest)

I think the only reason the cop let me off, was probably due to me looking scared witless.

You see, when we stopped, we were in a remote truck stop, no one else around, I got out of the car to walk to the cop car, the copper got out, shouted at me to stop and unclipped the strap on his pistol and had is hand round the grip ready to pull it out.

It was only when he heard me speak did he realise I wasn't American and that I was on holiday, or vacation as he put it, he explained that I shouldn't have got out of the car.

This kind of thing happened to Joe Cole a few years back.
He got caught doing some ridiculous speed somewhere and was taken to court over it.
His defence? And the reason he got off with a fine?

3 weeks previously his wife had been the victim of a carjacking and she was unwilling to drive for a while.
Cole argued that he was too well-known to use public transport and as a result would be unable to get to and from the ground.

And they bought it.

So, a Premiership player, on somewhere in the region of £50-60 thousand a week can't afford to hire a chauffeur for 6 months..?

It's pathetic. Truly pathetic.

There are many people driving around with 20+ points on their licence. Driving because it is their livelihood.

Again, truly pathetic.

Totally agree. He has the cash to solve his problems. Mr Average could loose his job etc and, in today's climate, probably not have a big bank balance to ride the storm - that's exceptional hardship.

Judge must be a cricketer.

Unlikely... every cricketer would know that Flintoff was good at bowling but could not drive (the ball). I wounder how fast he can ride a pedalo...
