Yep. My first ever medal. Was originally placed with 3 guys, one pulled out and my Bro in law managed to bag the remaining 9am slot alongside me so I'm feeling a little more relaxed. It's our first competition card for both of us so were both happy to know somebody we are playing with. Not set myself any targets other than get beyond the reds on the 1st tee.....

Check the FS section tomorrow night for a garage load of gear, will give you an idea of how it went!!

Relax and enjoy, helpful you'll both have a friendly face to keep yous calm.

Report back with tales of a tasty cut tomorrow rather than FS ads.

Cheers, no matter how bad I'll be back out there at the weekend. A cut won't be coming as its my first card in order to get a H/C. I know I can play well, I shot 41 on the front 9 last week with my BIL when we had 9 holes after work. Had my first lesson last Friday and pro changed two things, went to the range Sunday to try them out so unsure what tomorrow will bring!

Have you played off the whites before at your club. Don't be a hero and try and smash it off the tee just because the hole is a little longer. Most white tees are only 10-20 yards difference and so the gap is marginal, maybe one club more for the second. If you get in trouble take your punishment and get it out the quickest route possible. If you have any rules queries don't touch the ball until you have spoken to your playing partners and agreed how to proceed. Ask before you act.

Apart from that enjoy. It is suppose to be fun and what's the worse that can happen. 0.1 back

Never off the whites but enough times to know what you mean about not smashing it as on the whole, some are only 5-10 yards further back. Only thought in my mind is swing easy and as you said, take my medicine if I get in trouble.

Even better then no pressure at all, comp conditions without the added pressure gods thinking and a good idea.

Is the course much longer off the whites? Ours is about 650 yards which is a fair bit. My first medal of the year was a dismal affair, but out of 80 odd entrants only 3 shot better than their handicap

Marginally. At most a club length. I'm not setting a target for myself to ease any self pressure. No current H/C means not worries about making a score either. Go out, enjoy the sun, the company and the morning off work!

Thats the way to do it.
You can have the odd bad hole too as triples or worse get rounded down to a double bogey.

Looking forward to reading your report of how it went. Will be exactly in the same position as you in a couple of weeks. First ever medal, first time ever off the whites and no current official handicap. Luckily my game has been showing signs of improvement, especially off the tee, so hopefully embarrassing tee shots will be minimal. Looking forward to it though.

I assume you will have your handicap by then.

Probably not as can't play another three rounds and hand a card in each time before the medal. The reason for no official handicap is another story but club said I could enter the medal and it would speed up the process of getting probable 28!!

Well, for those of you interested, here is how it went......

Got to the club early, 25 balls on the range and felt good, practice some putts and meet the guys we are playing with and step upto the tee. Pulled my first drive but had a 2nd shot, 9 iron from 135 landed 8ft from the pin. 2 putts for par and off i walked. Won't give a hole by hole summary, ended 47 & 46 for a 93. Relatively pleased, have never hit so many good iron shots, ball striking on the whole was really good. Also had 7 pars, I just need to work on consistency off the tee, it's my biggest downfall. All in though, once I'd got the first out the way, I was relaxed and enjoyed it. The two fellas we were paired with we're great company and helped us through which was great! Roll on the next medal and at least I'll be able to have a chance at winning as I'll have an official handicap.
