Hi

Im 20 been playing golf for two years now and have always wanted my own set of clubs (cheap and new if possible - £100-150) i have been using my uncles set which has a mixture of different brands of club within his bag but i cannot decide on which club brand would best suit me has anybody got any advice on clubs for an average player

P.S i was thinking Dunlop Set from SportsDirect.com but just need a bit of advice from more experienced golfers to guide me to the right choice

Thanks

That price range would get you a decent set of 2nd hand irons. A decent 2nd hand putter is about 30-40. You can pick up a great but several years old 3-wood for 20.

Don't want to appear snobbish, but sets like that are no improvement on your uncles mix'n'match set.

So unless you are prepared to spend about £200 and still be without a driver (not a bad thing often) you are best as you are imo.

I've bought loads of sets, drivers, wedges etc. All of them have either been used or through Ebay, so I'm not an advocate of 'new' shinies.

Good luck

I was also looking at the Dunlop sets on there, the Dunlop Elite's I think I looked at, cheap enough, and I am only starting out, aslong as I can hit a ball I'll be happy, can always just swap them out for better clubs slowly once I know what my weaknesses/strengths are.

Don't worry about second hand - many of them will have been looked after by golfers who care a lot about their kit and will be in pristine condition.

Even if you buy a new set of Dunlops, they'll be used (and unsellable !) after a couple of weeks.

Is Dunlop really that bad?

Might just pick up a driver, a fairway wood and a hybrid for now then for use down the driving range :/

If you find a local American Golf or similar they will have 2nd hand clubs for sale. they would have traded them for new.

You are likely to find Ping/taylormade/Callaway etc all who make great clubs for what you want, you will pay around £2-300 depending on number of irons and condition.

These will suit you far better than a new set of cheap clubs.

And Lee Westwood is 100% Ping, he just wears Dunlop clothes for mega $$$.

i was joking, but he dosent wear dunlop, he wears another brand with a dunlop badge on.

I would look for a set of Wilson Staff Di7 irons, approx £100 SECOND HAND

They were best on test a few years back and will suit you for many years

Do not waste money on Dunlop stuff it is very poor and has no resale value when you wish to upgrade which over time you will

Good luck
