Journeyman Pro
I played in our Captain's Charity Day on Saturday, a 4 man team event with best 2 scores counting. Wasnt feeling confident at all beforehand as ive been playing rather crap of late. Anyway after hitting my approach at the first into the sand and being left with a dodgy stance and limited backswing I thought it was going to be another one of them days. But after somehow hacking it out and watching the ball rattle into the cup for a birdie, I started thinking maybe the golfing gods would be smiling on me for a change!
Another birdie on the 4th was followed by a bogey on the Par 3 5th after a fatted tee shot, I then parred the next 4 to finish the front 9 on -1. A birdie on the 10th took me to -2. I had birdie chances on all the next 7 holes, but didnt make any
, although there were some very near misses.
So I stood on the 18th at -2, only a bogey away from my first ever sub par round. Hit a nice drive just off the left of the fairway leaving only a gap wedge. Hit it OK, but wind caught it a little causing it to just miss the green (something I wasnt used to after the lest 8 holes
). Anyway a bit of a dodgy chip followed leaving a 10 footer for par - gave it a good go but it just shaved the hole, tap in for a bogey.
Ended up with a 1 under 72 for my first ever sub par round, so was well pleased
. I had a 72 in a comp earlier in the year but it was off the Whites which are a Par 71. The only downside is I wont even get a cut for it so single fugure handicap will just hav to wait a little longer.
Apologies for the gloat, but if it's good enough for Aztec to come and tell us on the odd occasion that he hits a straight drive, then it's good enough for me
PS - these new Mizzie MP53's are great!!!
