Had my first on course lesson today played 3 and a half holes. One half hole so that we finished back at the club house and course was quiet anyway. First hole straight drive, straight second shot to green and two putt. Not what i expected but made up for it on the second hole where i had bad alignment and therefore hit a straight shot into the trees, then rushed my backswing on the next to duff the pitch. Putting was consistent and the Pro has decided that it is my short game that needs a lot of work not the full swing as previously thought. Just need to slow the backswing down to keep control. Also the issue of hitting short on the range didn't happen on the course and the difference was too big to be just the quality of ball.

The Ridge in Maidstone is certainly somewhere i would recommend for a round in fact i might even arrange a came there in the summer if people are interested.

Well it went into more detail at the time. I am quite happy with how i am improving. I have a better understanding of where the bad shots come from. For example we finished with a pitch over water to a green about 90yds. First shot was my usual duffed thin shot to the right. I had no confidence in my setup either. Having been told my setup was a little narrow but otherwise ok it was a matter of slowing the backswing so that i could accelerate through the swing balanced, releasing correctly and not slowing down as i previously did. Second shot and i find myself left side of the middle of the green. With a two putt to finish.

Looking forward to a full round tomorrow. Aim of the game don't rush it and remember what i learned today.

I have always liked playing lessons. Its a lot more relaxed than a normal lesson in a bay or the practice ground and always good to see how the pro does it. I also think its good for the pro too to see exactly how you play on the course and react to different situations and can help him schedule lessons in a way to get to grips with what is really causing the problems

The Ridge is about 10 mins from me, but have not played there yet.

I think these are great it was most definitely one of the best lessons i've had in the past and like Homer said they are very relaxing so it's a good way of honing your course management, Did the pro ask you lots of questions regarding club selection and aim on shots? It's a good way to forge a bond with the club pro too.

It's my favourite way to help someone play better golf.
I get to see the REAL swing, not the posey range swing.
I can also see how the person goes about the short game and can often offer alternative ways of playing some shots.
I do hear myself saying quite often "Dont try the spectacular when the simple is better"

I had a few holes with our pro late last year as part of my series of lessons. He also mentioned more about course management and club selection than at any lesson. Just think it helped him assess my game overall.

I turned up without my putter - it was in the kitchen !!!! Luckily he had two in his bag and I borrowed his Scotty Cameron. I proceeded to sink putts from all over the place - not usually a strong point and was very flattered to be one under after five and played reasonably well for the other 7 holes.

Overall really enjoyed the experience and would be keen to do it again.

Didn't manage to sneak off with his putter though. :( :(
