First medal, any tips?

I've just started playing the medal comps after previously playing only stablefords. I'd say, over and above the actual play, tell your playing partner(s) it's your first medal and don't be afraid to ask about any rule you are not sure of. My partners were, without exception, decent sorts and only to pleased to 'welcome me into the fold'.

I had my first ever medal this year after playing a fair few stablefords and the advice here is spot on. I absolutely forgot about the score until the round was done and just tried to concentrate on where I wanted the next shot to go. I laid up where there was the slightest chance of going into deep filth or water and concentrated like mad to keep the ball on the fairway. With a big field the round tends to be alot slower so holding your concentration can be a problem if the course gets backed up at points. I did have an 8 on a par 5 which needed a bit of resolve to forget but I came back with a par at the next so got over it. In the end I really enjoyed it and felt mentally knackered which I don't always feel after a stableford. Hope you have a great time
