I turned up this morning looking forward to what I thought was a 4BBB.

Went in the shop to pay and found out it was greensomes, which I'd never played before.

I have to say, not impressed with it. Work all week looking forward to a game and only end playing half of it.
I played well (I thought) but my partner - aside from a few good putts - didn't play great and we ended up with 35pts.

It seems a very difficult game to score well at, unless you're both on your game, especially as handicaps are reduced with only the advantage of having choice of tee shots.

Another week to wait now before I can judge with a score if I'm playing well or not!

Played it once. Did not enjoy it at all.

Had too different a game from my partner. He was a much shorter hitter than I and was crap with his wedges and I couldn't cope with playing so far back from my normal spot.

I think you have to have a very similar partner or someone you get on REALLY well with.

No, not to shabby at all. Just difficult to get a score in contention (40 ish) unless both players are on form, as opposed to 4BBB in which one playing well will do as long as the other chips in occasioanlly.

We both hit about the same distance so on paper probably a decent pairing. We're a good team in better ball because we normally flop on different holes.

True, I would have hit 9 less tee shots in foursomes, but I'd have had 5 more approaches :)

Must admit i like greensomes, and have won a couple of competitions. If you play with a steady partner off the tee, you can give it a good smack, and if you hit it into trouble you still get to hit the next shot.

I like it too. I tend to be a bit erratic off the tee and so if I can find a steady player to keep it in play I can do ok in it. I tend to treat it as a bit of fun and rarely get too fussed if I don't do well. I do find it a bit of a let down in terms of it feeling like half a game

played greensomes format last week, but as strokeplay not stableford, 50% of combined handicp.

although it was in essence only half a game I enjoyed the experience, that was because the guy I had been paired with just wanted to have fun and not take the competiton too serious. was having a decent round until the 17th, twice in the water to card an 8 over 12, finished the round with a net 75 3over. 64 (8 under won)

will play again next year for sure

Played in one of our Greensome comps the other week, we were defending the trophy we won last year (44 pts) Got to the turn with 22 pts and then the wheels came off and finished with 37 pts. That finished 4th on countback along with the guys who were third and second but the winners had 42 pts.

Personally I like the format for a fun game, i have played it when i have played for the club in mixed matches.
