Played in my first ever scramble today. It finally took place after being rearranged 3 times since it's original date of 27th December. I'd been really looking forward to it for weeks.

5 man team with 10% of combined handicaps as allowance. It was my first game of the year too so a bit rusty. We all combined really well to shoot 51 (18 under) and narrowly missed top spot by 0.3.

I've never played that format before and it was great great fun. I hadn't played with any of the guys before and they were a really good laugh too.

Not the best format for getting your swing, putting or short game grooved but still had a fantastic time. We probably left at least 3 shots out there as well. But, hey, a good time had by all.

So 4 bottles of wine each as a prize and then to cap it all they drew the Pro's raffle and I picked up a dozen Srixon AD333s.

Back home with a big smile on face. First round of 2010, first ever scramble, prizes and a win in the raffle. Nice! :)

What a day. I can take or leave scrambles (especially mixed) but if you get a good team that aren't too hung up on the result and want to have a laugh then they are good fun and do make a pleasant change. Well done on the prize (I bet HID has her eyes on the wino) and a good result with the golf balls.

I don't see how you could take it too seriously. There were 13 teams within 4 shots and, much as we left a few shots out there, we could have left a few more and got nothing, so very happy.

HID claimed the wine before I'd even got home. I made the schoolboy error of ringing to say I was on my way back, she asked how it'd gone and next thing the wine's been claimed!

I've still got my balls though! :)

Just as an added comment, I played with one of the free Callaway Tour i(z) today. They really go miles. A couple of times I ended up flying trouble when I was certain I was straight in.

One of the guys I played with is a very big hitter and (although, I'm no slouch) the Callaway seemed to add quite a bit of yardage to some of my drives so I was keeping up with him mostly.

Shame, I'm down to my last one now.

I really love Scrambles, great fun especially when played on Christmas and New Years Eve as everybody is in a jolly mood anyway. Shame the weather over the last couple of month postponed so many Xmas golfing activities.

Have played 4 ball scrambles but never 5 ball, bet that was slow! I can take them or leave them, not a favorite format.
Well done by the way.

Just under 4 hours so not too bad really. As a change it was very good fun.
