Recently joined Waterton Park GC and what a wonderful Club and course I'm finding it! They really have gone out of their way to make the experience as special as possible and have all ready made some good friends and got my first ever handicap.

I first played in the Sixth Form at School, when you had to physically put your name on a list at Tinsley Park at 6AM for a tee time that day! I have always loved the game but have only been round about 50 times in the last 40 years. Not surprisingly, 35 years of keeping wicket to a good standard has taken its toll on my body and am struggling a little to accept the inevitable lessening of the latent talent I used to possess. My hope is that the handicap will find its proper level since the 96 posted and counting was a pure fluke and cannot really imagine playing to that on what is a difficult course. At the end of the day though, that is secondary to being out in the wonderful peace and quiet playing this wonderful game.

Welcome.
Cricketers usually make very good players.
We have two who are really good players.
Take your time learning the ins and outs of the game.
Nice to see a club being praised for a change.

Good to see.
I waited to join my first club.
Spent an entire winter on the range trying to get "good enough" to join.
I watched the members going out every Sunday morning while I was beating balls..
Eventually decided to join, played my first Medal for handicap and got 15...straight into Div 1
Wish I'd joined sooner, they were a good bunch of lads and very quickly fitted in.

Our mate Dando played cricket to a decent level and his golf shows that!

He hits the golf ball miles out of the ground and has to keep changing balls a bit like Jonny Bairstow ??
Yes our two lads can hit a cover drive into the trees with the best of them.
But they do seem to have an eye hand coordination for golf.

Cannot commend the Club highly enough really - absolutely next level commitment to prospective members.

The last 7 years have been more than a nightmare since our Daughter suffered a life changing brain injury. All ours lives changed that day. Just being able to commit to a couple of half days a week away from caring is a testament to how miraculous has been her recovery. We're lucky to still have her!

Once I get 20 cards in I'm sure the handicap will be more accurate and have seen some improvements the last few rounds. Just so frustrating to not be able to consistently put, chip, drive and approach all together! But that's golf!!!

Welcome.

Enjoy your golf

Getting a handicap to suit your ability is all about putting as many cards as possible. Current rules allow you to submit one every time you play.

It works like this and you will notice it does not start to truly reflect ability until 17 cards are in

Welcome.

No 18-hole score is a fluke. You did it because you had the ability to do it. Believe in yourself.

Aha, I started playing as a wee thing at Thornes Park 18-hole pitch and putt and then at Barnsley municipal.
Did some illegal fishing with my brother in that lake at Waterton Park long before it was a golf course.
All that was well over 50 years ago.

Yes an injury/ illness to a child is all consuming, glad she’s on the mend.

Don’t worry about the handicap that will take care of itself.
Just enjoy your game.

It's one hell of a setting with the Hotel in the middle! My PP managed to get diverted into the lake by the head of a Goose. Quite how it was still flapping is beyond me.

I'm enjoying it all right - just harking back to how it was even possible for me to go round in the low 80's with a persimmon driver and a 1.62 inch ball!!!

I still have some old 1.62 balls .
I use them to practice my chipping you really have to strike them well.
Normal balls are massive after that.
I still have my Mizuno persimmon driver as well, but it’s seen better days.
