A few times on the course now I've been asked to look up a rule, and a lot of the time I can remember having seen it at one time or another, but most of the time I'll be damned if I can find it!

I look in the section that I think sounds logical for it to be in but in the end (when I get back on my computer) I find it somewhere else.

So to the rules 'experts', do you remember rule numbers off the top of your head or is there a more logical way of deciding where a rule will be?

It is pretty logical in that the rules deal with situations in the order you would expect to find them - consider the groupings first, then the sub sections.

I used to use the index, but that as a pain.

Then they changed the order to be a bit like playing the first hole - prelim, Teeing, Playing, Green - and that made it easier.

I remember the number of a few of the others 23, 24, 26-28.

Anyone with th Rules App or Access to T'internet on a phone can search a bit.

The difficulty of use is one of the major reasons for o many myths and accidental breaches imo, but it's hard to see any way around it - apart from that Rules App.

Maybe it's not as good as I envisaged. I'm not a Smartphone User.

There is a little bit of pressure involved in the search when you are in on of those situations of course.

As has been indicated rules are basically set up in an order, but the other way is to learn to identify key words to enable you to use the index effectively. I don't know of any tricks for the key words, it's kind of an experience thing as far as I'm aware.

I carry a rule book in my bag and can refer to it at a moments notice - the only problem is that I don't often carry a pair of glasses!
