Films that were unexpected pleasures

iirc shawshank was ranked the best film of all time,

i stopped taking the missus to the cinema yonks back,she wanted to watch a film and then decided to fall asleep.so im sat there like a lemon watching a film i didnt want to watch.and yep cant for the life of me remember what it was.
but we are all going to watch the new star wars film.
on the whole we watch films from the net,various sites to stream.
which wont be on sky for a few months.
 
Les Miserables surprised me.
Bought it for the wife but had absolutely no intention of watching it myself. Not my cup of tea at all........... or so I thought.
Happened to be in the living room when she popped it in the player, started watching it with a view to going out and doing something else but stayed to the end.
Absolutely fantastic and I have watched it twice again since then.
Highly recommended, even if you don't like musicals.

Same for me, took the missus to the cinema to see Les Mis didn't have a clue what is what all about but surprisingly enjoyed it.

Les Mis went the other way for me. Think it was that it had been hyped up by my mum (of all people), plus it's a HUGE West End musical, which I normally really like but the film sent to sleep half way through.
 
A film that is appropriate for this time of the year! Had never seen 'It's a Wonderful Life' until my wife 'forced' me to watch it with her the year we moved in together - absolutely loved it and it's now our annual Christmas Eve movie when our sons have gone to bed!

Myself and Mrs Shark have a film night each week where we pick one of the new showings on Sky Movies. Some of the best ones we have seen have been one we had no knowledge of before-hand. Time Lapse was one (three flat-sharers find the house across the way has a camera that takes pictures of their window 24 hours in the future) and About Time (the one with Justin Timberlake and Amanda Siegried with time clocks on each persons' wrist) were superb. I thought the thriller with Chris Hemsworth set in the Far East was a bit silly but entertaining all the same.

About Time has Domnhall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy - I really enjoyed this film, which was a bit of a surprise actually.
 
Gone Girl, normally try & avoid Ben Affleck movies, but it was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time.

GI Joe, was a lot better than I expected.

That's a real goodie (was thinking of it also myself) - I stumbled across it years ago late one evening. Just how your life could diverge from any point in time if one door opened or closed.
