Ferrari are currently considering to lodge a protest which would turn around the world championship result.

They are looking at on-board camera footage that shows Vettel overtaking Vergne under a Yellow Caution. If upheld he would have 20 secs added to his time taking him down the race result and handing the world championship to Alonso by one point.

Interesting if true. Non of my usual F1 websites are running the story at the moment. Odd that it should be Alonso pushing it, not the best way to be crowned champ.

The record books dont care how you won the title, but which is worse? winning due to a technical challenge, or winning by breaking the rules (overtaking under yellow flag)

Brundle raised the point during commentary on Sunday and it looked like he overtook under yellow but surely they would have looked at it at the time and raises a protest straight after. Would seem strange to do it now.

That is how people get crowned world champion, one mistake or misjudgement can cost you. Alonso is quite right.......and the officials should have noticed it and still can.

This is the same Ferrari who deliberately broke Massa's gearbox so he was moved back on the grid, allowing Alonso to move to the better side of the track on the starting grid to ensure he got a better start? Really classy Ferrari.

All they are doing is putting this out to see how much of a howl of protest there is. And if there isn't much then they will probably launch an official protest. And if a lot of people share my view then they will probably not. But they have managed to at least put doubts regarding the validity of the victory in the public's minds.

There was a good article in the Times yesterday with Red Bull saying the championship had been a very dirty one with lots of underhand tactics going on. And this is just an extension of that, more to do with politics and mind games and not a lot to do with actual sport.

It's been going on for years, not just this year.

I thought it was a clever move by Ferrari.

The official ruling is that the lights are there in addition to the flags but are spaced out wider than the marshall posts. Therefore the flags take precedence. I think that the FIA should now take a very close look at the use of the lights. Where's the sense in having a yellow light flashing later in a section, which has been overruled by a marshall flag? At the least they should have lights only in line with the marshall stations, ensuring that the colour flashing is matched by the flag waving.
