These photos have just been leaked to the local press on the Mull of Kintyre where a rather "famous" golf writer was spotted making sandcastles on the beach today! The rumour is that he then went onto make a spectacular 4 utilising the famous "Scottish" bump'n'run and in the process took £2 from thecraw!!!

We were stood back on the tee watching and everyone said that surely you'd get a picture, then you took off like Usain Bolt across from very, very safe side of the hole where your ball was to get the pics. :clap:
 
Ive heard of sanding the fairways but come on :)

Wonder how Alvero Quiros [sp] would play that shot ??

Oh I do understand and I also understand that my fellow country men have a certain stigma attached regarding tightness so I do like to set the record straight ;)

I'm so tight I recovered from 2 matches of 4 and 5 down respectively to save a quid or 2, you can't be giving pounds away easily you know

If I'd ever been to Machrihanish (and I'm unwilling to confirm whether or not I have until I have spoken to my lawyers), then I would hope not as it is not a breach of the Rules. You can actually take your bag, trolley or even another club into a hazard and lay it down and would still not be breaking any Rules.

Most people assume you would be because of the 'not grounding your club Rule', but The R&A - for all the flak it takes from time to time - has actually erred on the side of common-sense here - ie if you were in a particularly large bunker or hazard, it could save a lot of time instead of trekking back to the bag for another club etc.

At 95% of clubs it would clearly look pretty poor etiquette to take your clubs into a standard-size bunker or hazard, but there is actually nothing in the Rules to stop you doing so.

Still not prepared to say whether or not I've ever visited Machrihanish though - you can do amazing things with Photoshop these days, I understand...

Here is a little snippet from the relevant Decision 13-4/0.5 by the way...

Examples of actions that would not constitute testing the condition of the hazard include the following:

• digging in with the feet for a stance, including for a practice swing, anywhere in the hazard or in a similar hazard;
• placing an object, such as clubs or a rake, in the hazard;
• leaning on an object (other than a club) such as a rake while it is touching the ground in the hazard or water in a water hazard;
• touching the hazard with an object (other than a club) such as a towel (touching with a club would be a breach of Rule 13-4b); or
• marking the position of the ball with a tee or otherwise when proceeding under a Rule.
 
Hmmm, nice swerve there Jezz.

I have a picture from Machrihanish of a golf writer playing with thecraw and I pulling off the old driver off the deck shot, looks very similar to the man on the beach ;)
