Howdy

Got a call from my mate last night as he had just had his "new" R11 driver and 3-wood delivered and wanted to check the 3w against one i bought from AG a few weeks ago. He bought it from golfstore18.com and only became suspicious that something was wrong when he couldn't get in touch with them to ammend his original order. (Web site only has an email contact)

Anyway, the 3w they sent him looks a bit fishy. Poor paint job around the crown, FCT component of shaft labelled incorrectly and it appears they have used a old fishing rod for the shaft as it is so wobbly (meant to be a stiff 70 blur).

He bought these with a credit card and it costs £150 to return them. My question is, where does he go now? Does he have any comeback at all in this situation or does he just chalk it up to experience?

Cheers

Ray

Their returns policy states:
"shipping costs can only be refunded when incorrect goods have been sent."

Now, a fake R11 is incorrect goods, so he should be able to fight them on that. In small claims court. In 1 year's time.

So chalk it up to experience, and for goodness sake, if it looks too good to be true, it almost always is. £162 for an R11?????

also, as a rule of thumb I dont buy from any online company without a phone number which I call first to guage the customer service etc

Definatley suspect as the site allows you to buy Ping equipment I.E Add to basket and pay.

I thought this wasn't allowed and could only be done in person or over the phone :D

He should have insurance with his credit card company. Phone them first.

(He should have bought Ping ;))

Dear oh Dear, Ebay, I can see how some people will be suckered into buying but from dodgey sites proclaiming half price clubs with poor contact details....

His credit card company is equally liable as the sellers, he should contact them first and be willing to get proof that is is a fake and insist that the card company does a charge back. If he gets fobbed off by the card company he should keep insisting on speaking to someone higher up until he gets what he wants and is legally entitled to.

How is the credit card liable for stupidity?

Chris

is correct.

i wouldnt chalk over 100pound down as experience.

credit card company can stop the transaction easily as they wont actually have forwarded the funds to the seller yet.

just badger until someone agrees to do it for you.

fella in my work bought a set of dodgey ping irons lastweek. of goldclubgateway, fake ofcourse.

phoned up the company though and has got most of his money back and is keepign the clubs anyway.

Until he plays his first day in moderate heat and the clubheads will go further than the ball ;)

If that site has been flagged up as a fake site then yes the CC company should have been aware. Perhaps a lot of people are just accepting the cheap clubs for the cheap prices and are taking it on the chin.
Why wont people accept that half price clubs are going to be fake or will need to bite the bullet and buy second hand. If someone offered you a £50 note for £20, would you be suspicious?

Well its fine giving the guy and me a hard time but sometimes you can get suckered into what looks like a good deal. Yes I know they normally arent but not all overseas clus are fakes but yes you should be suspicious. If you take out all the middle men and sell at just over cost in a club sale you end up with one that would cost around that figure and if you look around the retail and online market the variation of price with these is massive as well.

I say this in my own defence as I too got stuck by the same online store. They give the impression of having UK customer service etc and they dont. They have communicated but in crap pidgeon English. At present they have offered me £100 refund (after many hard core emails) and to keep the club which I obviously dont want but will bastardise the shaft and grip, weights, headcover etc as much as possible. I am also going through my credit card company for the rest (or more if I can) and you need only to provide a letter confirming the club is fake and notify the company that the club is available for collection. Happy to give you more detail if you want to mail me but in brief get all over them like a cheap suit and they will pay you pay you off to keep quiet. I will work hard to get them off the UK web space.

I dont want to get personal.

The law says that the credit card company is equally responsible as the seller. This is known to the card company and is the same if someone goes bust between paying and receiving the goods or if the goods are sub standard etc That is the reason that I pay by card - there is always a come back if things go wrong.

Dear oh dear. Some people never learn.

Having said that, the credit card company should be able to do their job and recover the cost.

Over the years, I've got money back on all sorts of things. This is probably a grey-ish area, but I'd be confident.

No problem at all the credit card company should reimburse him.

A while ago I bought some concert tickets from a scam web site and Barclaycard coughed up £140 straightaway for the tickets I never received.

If you buy online use a credit card.

But I agree with whats been said, £162 for an R11? That should of told him everything he needed to know.
