Fairway woods.....getting the ball launched.

14 degree 3 wood....whatever next.

I was eying up a tasty 2nd/hand G2 5 wood at my course. Looked nice until I read 17 degrees.....might as well call it a 4 wood and consider it a waste of time unless you're only going to carry two woods (driver and 5).

My first proper 3 wood (Mizuno) was 17 degrees, then a Callaway = 16 degrees and now a Taylor Made = 15 degrees. Every one has a longer shaft as well.......

What are the manufacturers trying to do to us???

My Titleist 5 wood is 18 degrees, Dave. How can they call it a 3 wood at 17?

My feelings exactly.....the lofts are all over the place these days.....my 5 is 19, 3 is 15 and driver 10.5 or 12 depending on Callaway or Ping. Truth be known, a 12 degree driver is an old 2 wood and so is the Callaway "strong" 3 wood at 13.

I suppose if you go with one make, the lofts will even out nicely, but I suspect they are going down to flatter the unknowing buyer/tester.

If I tested my old big bertha 5w with this G2 5w in the pro shop, the G2 would probably seem unbelievable. 2 degrees less and an inch longer, plus graphite shaft....hardly a level comparison.
