Just seen a promotional video for Fairmont St Andrews and it looks very nice. Has anyone who has played there able to offer any opinions. Seen a green fee to be available for only £30, which seems very low, compared to the slick looking video.

I have played both courses over last winter and they were both in great condition, especially for the time of year.

You can normally get a 4 ball at £25 per head on teeofftimes. Certainly worth a visit for the money.

We went to have a look around on a trip to St Andrews in July

The courses look good - but there are so many other good courses in the area within @ 30 minute drive

played both courses for Free and to be honest, that was too much.

The shorter course was better than the one they use for T ornaments, that was just a slog

Why was free too much? What didn't you like about it? Too long, too hard, poor condition, slow play?

I think that is harsh. I played the Kittock course last summer and for the £25 we payed it is decent value. If you compare it to where else you can play for £25 without a member signing you on I think it stands up pretty well. There were some interesting holes and some great views. Course condition was pretty good. I've never played the Torrence. Food in the clubhouse was very expensive and what I had was not very good so I'd have lunch elsewhere.

Prob I am Ian, we played the back tee's on both and i found the holes a bit samey and the greens we very slow, it was almost like putting on my lawn. You are right £25 is prob reasonable compared to the other courses locally, but they advertise it as £75 no way is it worth that.

I played it with a 3 friends and the week included the Carnoustie, Monifieth, Lundin, and the New & Jubilee. so this was the weakest course of the lot. None of us enjoyed it and the other guys have the same opinion still.

Punctuated with great views and some good holes but let down by too many ridiculously long, straight and featureless par 4s. It's a great value day out if you're picking up one of the £25 tee times but outside of that I'd think twice. Get a buggy and you'll enjoy the Kittocks - be prepared for a very long walk otherwise.

In a different location the courses would fare well but they're let down by being on the doorstep of much better. They're good enough but they're setup to attract the resort golfers who are staying at the hotel. They're not difficult, just far, far too long.

Thanks for all the comments. The pricing makes more sense now.

I do like the look of those Golfboards though. Might have to play there one day, just to have a go on one of them! :)

Pretty spot on Jim, def not somewhere to play when you have been out on the lash till 5am and you have a 8.30 tee time the next morning;)
