Had the pleasure today of spending a chunk of the day at Collingwood Park in Northampton watching the latest event on the Europro Tour. So nice to be able to walk where you want and follow the players close up. Some very good and some ordinary golf on show, surprised to see -5 leading on a very still day, expected someone would go lower but it was quite tight in places and the 2nd cut of rough utterly brutal.

Followed round the pro Ive played a few pro-ams with this winter. Sadly he played pretty poorly for him, but a joy to watch his short game get him out of trouble time after time and somehow he managed to sign for a 1 under par 71 and still fancy he has a decent chance if he can get the driver working tomorrow (especially as he may well get the best of the weather)

Considering entry is free its amazing how few spectators there are (mainly friends and family it seems), definitely worth going to watch one of the events if they have them near to you

I'd recommend Open qualifiers too, especially the final (local) qualifiers.

Am I being overly cynical, but aside for the top few destined to make the next step up, isn't the standard a little weak. Certainly seems a lot of players struggle at each of these events.

Not overly, its not the highest level tour but its also not horrible standard either. The range of standards is quite great and theres certainly some very good players at the top end. David Horsey played in one the other day and didnt manage to win. The group I followed today 2 of them broke par and the 3rd was +1 round a pretty tough golf course (in albeit benign conditions)
. Mark who I followed played on the European Tour last week and theres definitely a handful or more who you would think will go on to play at a higher level for sure

They are playing at our place in September so I am going to go down one of the days and watch. You never know you could be watching a future major winner. Jimmy Bullard will also be playing so that's an added bonus.
