I'm planning a trip to the Europro Ulster Bank Open at Galgorm Castle this weekend. Anyone here been to one of these before and if so, is there anything particular to look out for?

Has the Europro tour produced any good European tour players?

The event finishes on Friday, so it might be a bit quiet at the weekend!

I think that a few European Tour players have been on the EuroPro at some point, including Robert Rock, Ross Fisher, Louis Ousthizen, Charl Schwarzel, Branden Grace, John Parry, Graeme Storm, and Lee Slattery (who I think took some time off due to illness). There are also a lot of players on it who have played Challenge Tour and a few of the smaller European Tour events.

Ive got a friend playing in the event, and yes, final round is Friday.

Not sure what Galgorm course is like, but at the Europro event I watched recently on Sky, the course was pretty shabby to be honest, I was very surprised. I'd spoken to him after he'd played, and he'd said how crap it was, but I guess the courses that host these events are only doing so to boost their profile etc.

Played Galgorm on Friday last week. The course is certainly not shabby. Wouldn't want to be in the second cut though. It's a killer!

D'oh!! So much for that idea. I knew it was on for 4 days and just assumed it was a Thursday to a Sunday. Thanks...you've saved me a worthless trip!
3 days with cut after the second if i remember right mate , attended one a couple of years ago , was very enjoyable , very relaxed ,some good golf aswell

The Galgorm website says it's from Tuesday 29th - Friday 1st...but either way, Saturday is still too late. :( I was looking forward to taking my little boy, as well. Sniffle.

Maybe the Tuesday was Pro-Am day........??

Its Defo 3 rounds, with a Cut made after 2 Rounds

There are 2 lads I know playing from the 2 clubs Im a member at
Philip Ridden -- City of Newcastle GC -- just turned Pro this year, was +3 H/Capper
George Cowan -- Westerhope GC -- had good season last year, only just missed out on stepping up and gaining Challenge Tour card

Another Local lad, very steady player, David Clark -- Morpeth GC

Good Luck to them all

Sorry that you will miss out Muttlee - yes, Tuesday is pro-am day. Cut is done after two rounds, but I think that only top 50 and ties go through to the Friday, whereas it's 60 on the European and Challenge tours.

The courses pay around £10k to hold an event, hence some of them are not always in the condition we would imagine for a pro event. I believe that Galgorm is a very nice set up though.

The West Ham midfielder, Gary O'Neil is playing on an invite - looks like he won't make the cut.

My son plays on the EuroPro - hence my detailed info! ;)

Most tours have a website and this will tell you what's going on. There are lots of tournaments that don't attract big crowds but the players are brilliant golfers and the stories are often more exciting as they have more to play for. I always think there are better stories at the cut mark or the bottom of the leaderboard in a big tournament.

I'm a member at galgorm and will be playing Saturday, so you are welcome to come watch mutlee lol :)
Played the pro am on Tuesday and the course was in great shape, to be fair, it usually is, last week it was fluffy as they were letting the fairways and greens grow to get them just right for thus week.
Was down today for a bit and it was good fun, course looks fantastic, rough been cut down a touch since last Sat when it was horrendous, lost ball almost as soon as you went in it!!
This is the third year it has been hosted at galgorm and this is the final year, I'm not sure but think u only can have it for 3 years, I stand to be corrected though. The prize pot is 40k with 10k to the winner. Paul Cutler was playing thus year, but I think he missed the cut.
Nick McCarthy was our pro on Tuesday, we came second as a team and Nick won the pro prize, hope he can go on to good things as was a thoroughly decent chap, passed him tonight heading to the car and he came over for a chat inbetween practice which he didn't have to do, so it made a very good impression.
The course should be awesome this weekend and for next Monday and Tuesday open days, fingers crossed.
