European Tour Shot of the Year

I like Casey's - only because the Caddy was promised the car for the Hole-in-One. That's why he's chuckling - unfortunately the car was the prize the following day......

Not seen Rosie's putt before - that's epic.

What's your favourite?

Mine is Justin Rose's putt that just missed, cracking putt.

the shot he played out of the bunker on the short par 4 15th was it when he was 1 down , he duff his 1st shot and left it in the bunker and Mickleson was already on the green with a par certain and still having a chance for birdie, his 2nd bunker shot to a green running away from him was class , stone dead he left it under all that pressure and then go on the win from there

Oostie's eagle for me.

Though Rose's Ryder Cup that went in was pretty close - his were the only non-flukes.

Poulter gets the award for grumpiest SOTM, though some way to make par!

I like Poulter's as it's always nice to throw the ball over the flag and spin it back.

Something I don't understand though, Donald's shot at Wentworth, when the ball comes to rest, there is another ball closer to the flag. So who hit that one and why wasn't it nominated?

I'd have to go for Rose at the Ryder Cup on the basis that he made it and Mickelson applauded. A complete shot. Competitive, quality and sportsmanship.

i was about two holes away and heard the roar when harrington chipped in.

im still voting for justins putt that never was. it had me grinning from ear to ear watching it. top stuff and enjoyed it too :)

Can someone explain to me what is so special about Oosthuizen's eagle, and I with regard to the technical difficulty of the shot? Yes it was a great result but shot of the year? Really?

Hawkeye, as I was watching the shots I was wondering how I would choose one. There is the technical difficulty of course, and if that were the only criteria I would probably have chosen Padraigs pitch from the rough or Rosies nearly putt.

Then I factored in the situation. Rosies RC putt would probably win that one.

So why Oosty? Well at the end of the day it was the one that gave me the most pleasure to watch. A longish iron from the fairway in a major championship (ok early on in the round so not so much pressure but it was the last day) and it was struck beautifully. When it starts running down the green you begin to think that it'll be close, very close, and gradually you realise it's going in and it does, absolutely dead weight.

So, very subjective but there you are.

Fair enough, as you say all about opinions

Ritchie Ramsay for me, great knock down that pitched next to the hole and went in.

Putts are not really shots are they?
Shots from the rough always carry a bit of luck if they go in.

There's a degree of luck in a long putt or chip in the same way as there is in holing a 5 iron from way back, it all comes down to how accurately you start the shot on your chosen line and how lucky you are with outside influences.
Wind direction and bounces being two key influences on the 5 iron, bumps and grass consistency (and even wind) on the long putt or chip.

There are a lot more long putts and chips holed than 5 irons as any slight error on the 5 iron is exagerated and outside influences have more potential to come into play. Also there is a greater margin for error the closer you get to the hole.

Taking your argument you could almost say that it's impossible to play a special shot using any club above a PW. ;)
