England's ODI disaster..

Englands ODI approach has been blinkered and stubborn for years. Two years ago i would have said Morgan was a shoe-in but hes a liability and worse with the bat than Cook at the moment.

At least they gave Taylor a bash after months of nagging by the press.

Only because Cook was suspended for Englands horrific over rate. The funny thing with that too is Morgan is already on a warning for that now so misses a game if gets another penalty for it!

We could end up with our best team through suspension, rather than selection.

Still won't be the best team as KP has been discarded! Would still be the first name on my England team sheet for all forms of cricket.

Would give the captaincy to James Taylor

on what basis?

hasnt played 10 games for england, has very little recent captaincy experience (bar a few games for the lions), isnt guaranteed a place in any of the 3 formats currently. The obvious medium term selection is Joe Root and only a matter of time before he gets the role in at least 1 format and likely he gets it in all 3 before too long

wasnt vaughan testing the media water stating KP should be recalled?

thoughts on that cricket fans...

Saw KP in yesterday's big bash, electric.
England should pick him, of course thay should.
The public pay to watch them play and want to see England win. He's the one the public want to see more than any other, added to the fact that he's the most naturally talented batsman I've ever seen, that tells me he should be in the side.

Glad to see the reports that Ballance will replace cook in the squad. Not sure id have gone for Morgan though. I'd go Broad for captain. Hard to comment on Pieterson....talent wise, yes, but his form wasn't that great last year. I want to know.....if he is that good, why do counties not snap him up ????

My w/c team would be...

Hales
Ballance
Ali
Taylor
Morgan
Bopara/Vince
Butler
Woakes
Broad
Tredwell
Anderson

On the basis of one knock?

Certainly would not rule him out but after his showings last season we need to see a little more than just one innings to be sure that he is worth his place.

Reputation alone should never be enough for selection.

You would drop Root, even though he is our highest ranked one day batsman, averages over 40 in ODI's, three hundreds this year, and scored a sack load of runs against Sri lanka.

He can also bowl a few overs.

In his pomp yes, but his record over the last two years has not been very impressive.

Good to see him perform for an Australian team in one game though.

No. As much as i like Pietersen his form has been mediocre (despite the other night's innings) and all he has done is flit about playing T20. If he had played a summer's cricket for Surrey and scored plenty of runs then fair enough but he doesnt warrant a place in the team other than sentimentality at the moment.

I remember when the desicion to give Graham Smith the captaincy it was critisized

He should be guaranteed a start in ODI ( other formats are irrelevent )

Think England should start from scratch after WC - and think Taylor is the type of character to be a good captain.

Agree. Pietersen should be back in the England team but he has got to put in a long stint in the long form of the game to show that he's serious. Playing pyjama cricket, sponging up the cash and tweeting like a celeb aint taking it seriously.

Not all the public want to see him

Petierson has burnt his bridges a long time ago now

An Australian team paying him lots of money of course

They could do a lot worse than Taylor.
