Well I guess the title says it all. Did anyone watch the 4th ODI?

I watched it in a sports bar in Mumbai... oh what a treat (sorry Chrisd). When India was batting, I was not sure if I watching an ODI or a T20.

Eng need to get itself sorted and also stop sitting on the fence about Moeen Ali.

What I don't get is how come an Indian team that can't break 150 in an innings in test cricket is suddenly spanking our bowlers all over the park, and their bowlers are killing us.
It's the same basic game... Or is it?

Not really.. A test is very different from an ODI and very different from a T20.. The current Indian team is fairly young and has very little Test experience outside the subcontinent.
However, Indian cricket is now almost entirely fed on ODIs and T20s, so the new kids on the block know all about hitting the ball all over the park from the word go.. Cant do that in tests.

In the dismal final test India faced a grand total of 90 overs in 2 innings, and were all out for 129 and 94. If they had treated each innings as a ODI it's hard to see how they could have done worse, at least they would have put some runs on the board.

Indian cricket has no interest in Test Cricket - they can't market it like the IPL or ODI and that's where their priorities are.

Fine piece on the SSN app earlier from Botham who basically said the ODI team are going backwards and have no chance in the world cup and that now is the time to blood new players in what remains of the series. He says there needs to be wholesale changes and I agree. Cook definitely doesn't strike me as an ODI captain (the test captaincy is also a debatable point) and there are others with great one day averages this season not included or being given a go

We're terrible. Need a complete change in mindset, and squad. Cook needs to go, he's not cut out for ODi's. I'd be picking:

Hales
Lumb/Vince
Moeen
Taylor
Morgan
Buttler
Bopara
Woakes
Broad
Tredwell
Finn

Would have a much better chance of winning the world cup. Still don't think it'd be strong enough, but a move in the right direction at least.

English cricket seems to be going the way of the English footbal squad.. <popcorn>

Funnily, after England came back from losing the 1sttest to win that series, I suggested that India would win the ODIs to zero! I was more thinking about betting patterns however !

Bowling and fielding is completely different in Test matches vs ODI's, i'm told by keen cricketers

Spinners on. Here comes the collapse. Hopefully Roooooootttt will keep going and get a big one. Become a big fan of him this summer, he's been superb.

Feel sorry for Moeen - but it was a bit foolish to try to continue where he left off. He shld have settled down. Cook might be a bit relieved to get into double figures.. Morgan needs to figure out how to play offspinners.

Well played Rooty.. 50 up.

Its the same with the football team , they keeping picking duds and hope they do well , Ie Rooney , stevie G and Lampard , guys have failed time and time and still get picked , need to dump cook for a start and a couple more and play the young up and coming players , give them a chance

Well finally Cooks got the bullet, so they persevere with him right up to the start of a World Cup (at least 6 months too long) and then fire him, and replace him with another batter who is as equally out of form (and has shown no leadership abilities).

Yet somehow Moores and Downton still have their jobs in the old boys network run world of English cricket having got rid of one scapegoat and got the next lined up already. Surely one day these 2 (and a few others ie Saker) will finally be held accountable

I assume Morgan has got the Captaincy ?

Why is Gary Ballance not in the squad. He is regarded as a better one day player than Joe Root in Yorkshire, and it is not as if he has done badly under pressure at Test level ?

Not been officially confirmed but yes rumour is Morgan has the job for the tri series and the WC and Cooks spot in the squad will be taken by Ballance
