End of free prescriptions ?

Having just turned 60 and discovered that I now qualify for free prescriptions, I’d be a bit miffed if those goalposts were now moved
But agree it does make sense to bring it into line with state pension age

I get a pre pay for my heart meds as i have to pay for them but my mate gets his asthma drugs free i believe , we both need them to
stay alive but one is free and one not , i think what you pay is more than reasonable and it boils my p155 when people complain
about the charges , if they had to pay full price for the meds that would make their knees wobble .

There is a general direction to all GPs not to issue prescriptions for items that can be had across the counter without a prescription I now have had two of my anti inflammatory meds take off my script repeat.
 
One of the annoying things about the Scottish NHS free prescription system is that some common items [paracetamol is an obvious one] cost the SNHS more to dispense than it does for the patient to buy direct from the local chemists.
We buy about 4 items off my wife's fairly long medical prescription list from the chemist but I know a few well heeled locals who are aware of this situation but still keep items on their prescription lists.

The GP's shouldn't be prescriping them then!

There is absolutely no doubt that since the SNP won power, there have been far more socially responsible changes and policies that are good for Scotland as a whole, than we ever had from Westminster. You can call it "buying votes" if you like, others would say it's having the right priorities? (y)

It’s easy to be “socially responsible” when you are spending other people’s money.

Writing cheques they can't afford. Just my opinion of course.

Or even less! I think I pay 16p!
As others have stated, certain items (like paracetomol) should, generally, be removed from the 'free list'.
Edit: Ha, just checked and the memory of 16 was correct. Just that it was for the number in the (29p) pack!! :oops::ROFLMAO:

Couple of points. For things like paracetamol, aspirin etc, the government should produce their own if you can buy it at tesco for 50p must cost about 5p a packet to produce. Could send it to all GP's and still save a fortune. It's free at the point of use, its still paid for by taxation. I live in Scotland and like our system. (not a political point just an observation)

Or...The entire purpose of what 'devolved government' was all about - irrespective of the 'political flavour' of the government running the devolved area.
