I’ve had Braun shavers for what seems like forever, but even with new blades they don’t seem to be getting the job done - maybe it’s just that grey whiskers show more. I switched to wet shaving a few months back but seem to shed as much blood as whiskers.

Are you an electric shaver? What works well for you? Do you prep your face pre-shave?

Very much a personal thing.
I always got on better with rotary heads than a foil. Dad has sworn by Panasonic Wet/Dry foil shavers for 30 years.
From age 25-50 I mostly wet shaved. For the last couple of years I just trim my beard with hair clippers every week or 2, which I now realise is the choice of champions.

I've used a Philips wet and dry shaver for a good few years now, 3 rotary blades. I don't use it dry very often, use with a shaving gel and it's a game changer. Just regular Gillette, supermarket own etc. Shaves well, no cutting, no rash.

I have always use a rotary blade razor (Philips) some models have been better than others.
With the grey hairs starting I have noticed it is not as good with thicker stronger hair so I wet shave every so often.

I've had two 3 head philips over the years and replaced the batteries in both. Now those batteries don't hold much charge anymore. I decided to buy a new one. This one still has a welded-in battery but it is lithium. Downside is that is has a thingy on the lead rather than just being a wire. Apparently it's waterproof and can be used in the shower.

However, BA lost my baggage last week so I went a couple of days without a shaver. But then I decided to continue with the beard.

Mmm, foil or rotary head? I had a Phillips twin head around 1980 but wasn’t too impressed. Maybe worth considering the triple head - 50% extra shaving.

Phillips question; how often do the heads need replacing? I change the foil head on the Braun every 2-3 months.

Many thanks everyone for taking the time to reply.

Sounds like you’re pressing to hard if you have to change the foil that often.
I get at least a year/18 months out of mine.

I can't remember ever changing the heads on any of my Phillips rotaries.

Just make sure to keep the same head in the same holder when doing a full clean.

I tend to dry shave as wet shavers knacker my skin. I generally use Philips but I do find that the blades eventually wear out. However, I have also found that, with a little patience, you can get one of the more basic models at a price much lower than the cost of the replacement blades. So for me it's cheaper to just buy a cheap Philips razor than replacement blades. Strange but true.

I've had a Philips triple head for - don't know - maybe 20 or more years. Never changed the head.
Mostly wet shave every day with cheap disposables. Just happened to have bought a packet of 10 for £1 in Tesco today. They will last me until Christmas.
