DVD to iphone coversions. Help required.

I know that we have a few well educated types on here, so I'd thought I'd start th you guys as the internet is full of software for doing this. I'm a bit cautious with downloading un-recommended software.

What I want to do is copy a dvd that I own into a format that can then be added to my itunes to enable me to sync the dvd / film to my iphone 3GS.

Any ideas?

xilisoft. May cost but you may get it for free if you can find the key generator and then use the free trial

Some 'free' ones only allow a 3 minute or similar conversion. Though ideally I was looking for a free one that I could use. (Yes, I am tight!)Don't need editing or anything fancy like clipping and croping.

free video converter, totally free, and converts many different types of video file to iphone/mp4/psp whatever!

Hapless - I use Handbrake. You might need to mess with the setup a bit, but works great.

I wish you hadn't asked this. I'm only on the forum for another 2 minutes, then I'm gone.

It CAN be done. It's long winded and t.b.h. almost not worth the aggro. I HAVE done it (for ipod touch) but

You're going to need software to a) rip the DVDs and b) convert the files into the correct format.
If you are keen to know more, I'll explain in more...............

I guess this "direct" approach is the way to go.

i.i.r.c. the method I used was rather dodgy (hence my reticence to post on here). The original disk (owned by me) was ripped using one of the alcohol products, BUT not on my PC. I then used a converter found on cnet downloads.

VLC media player is supposed to be able to rip/convert/save disk info, but I tried it last night and failed at every turn.

I have a cunning plan for today....I'll report later if I have any luck.
