Duncan Smith's DWP resignation

Why is it that when Tory MPs are allowed to campaign for or against EU membership and then one person resigns from the Tory cabinet they are "tearing themselves apart" yet when 7 or 8 resign from the shadow cabinet following Corbyn getting elected its no big deal or to be expected and is brushed off by their supporters?

Because they are the party in power so it is more important what happens with them, and Europe was always going to be a hugely divisive issue with opened old old fault lines. Cameron did not want to allow ministerial freedom but he underestimated the scale of revolt and political opportunism.

Labour may get their turn but it won't be over Europe. Trident, possibly.

IDS is a sociopath. He does not have a conscience and he has no compunction about putting the boot into the vulnerable. It is wonder he hasn't proposed constructing large buildings where the poor can break stones in exchange for meagre food and shelter.

This is a toys out of the cot response to Cameron's criticism of the Brexit camp. IDS thinks he can be some sort of statesman and rallying point for the xenophobes and little Englanders now that BoJo's similar attempt has slipped on a banana skin. IDS was number 2 on my list of most hated Tories just behind Jeremy Hunt, and ahead of number 3, Gideon the Austere.

The only real winner here is Jeremy Corbyn. I do love to see the Tories tear themselves apart. Cameron has now secured a leadership challenge after June 23rd, win, lose or draw.

As said - I am willing to cut IDS some slack - that does mean to say I support one bit what he has been doing. And I am also just loving seeing the Tories pull themselves apart - with one of their own pointing out some truths - with my one concern being that as a firm Remainer - that camp needs strong and believable Tory proponents - and as things stand today Cameron and Osborne are not that - having managed to concoct chaos out of what they had intended to be a 'no big deal' budget.

He should have the Titleists to say plainly that he feels he can't campaign fir Brexit as he would wish to do whilst in the cabinet. The idea he is feeling some humanity for the people he has serially pummelled is ridiculous.

Indeed just as Tories need to just admit there is chaos in their party, and get out of their denial and accept that it is tearing itself apart - Labour supporters need not be too smug because with JC the chaos is present and correct - and Trident is their fault line - and it is only time.

It is possible to live in delusion and denial for a long time

I think IDS is the first to start the political shenanigans in the Tory party and I think they'll suffer from the same in-fighting the labour party has had before (and the tories going back - it's not a new thing) and will intensify post EU referendum. Could play right into Corbyns hands
