So is it a moment of his guilty conscience pricking him about having presided over vile and heartless benefit cuts, or might it be a realigning of his position in readiness for his anti-Cameron/ Europe position on the Brexit debate?

He's a horrible ultra-right winger and whatever his motivation for resigning was, then at least he has removed himself from beating the poor and disadvantaged into the dirt.

Perhaps the arrogant oaf is off to live on £7 a week as apparently it's so easy that anyone should be able to do it.

In any case I trust he won't get one penny of benefit for at least six months as he walked out of a perfectly good job.

Good riddance 'Quiet Man'

Like Boris, he is a political opportunist, both would sell their granny for self betterment.
Good riddance, hope the supporters of IDS's mantra take a good look at themselves in the mirror.

I think he's playing the long game. There was a good chance of the sack from the cabinet anyway. He thinks Boris will be the next PM. He takes the moral high ground, knowing he's on the way out, and further aligns himself with the incoming PM.

IDS is a sociopath. He does not have a conscience and he has no compunction about putting the boot into the vulnerable. It is wonder he hasn't proposed constructing large buildings where the poor can break stones in exchange for meagre food and shelter.

This is a toys out of the cot response to Cameron's criticism of the Brexit camp. IDS thinks he can be some sort of statesman and rallying point for the xenophobes and little Englanders now that BoJo's similar attempt has slipped on a banana skin. IDS was number 2 on my list of most hated Tories just behind Jeremy Hunt, and ahead of number 3, Gideon the Austere.

The only real winner here is Jeremy Corbyn. I do love to see the Tories tear themselves apart. Cameron has now secured a leadership challenge after June 23rd, win, lose or draw.

I would expect Sturgeon would also sell her granny for self betterment

They are all the same - since when has any politician looked after anyone else but themselves ?

Everyone looks after themselves to a greater or lesser extent. But for me, Mo Mowlem in taking on the then poisoned chalice of Northern Ireland Sec. She was never going to please everyone but at least she had the guts to take it on in the full knowledge of how politically dangerous the position was.

Agreed. It is simplistic to lump them all in together, and is a diversionary tactic.

Tories currently driving the NHS into privatisation have a lot more to gain from those opposing privatisation. New Labour was basically Tories by a different name and some of the current Progress faction rain so, but Corbyn has much less personal gain from his policies than those he opposes.

Yep that's fair enough Bri - certainly prob is the odd who will be trying to improve things

It is funny how the clear Labour supporters rip into the Tories and their current choices - seems they have selective memories in regards the choices recent Labour governments have made and the consequences of those choices.

I'm not sure when the last time a government was in power that didn't mess things up

I'm sure it's on the Tory wish list already, and given half a chance they'd implement it in a heartbeat.

Like I said, diversion. The Tory supporters really can't defend the policies, so divert, divert, divert.

I expect the dead cat tactic will be along shortly too.

Im not a Tory Supporter so im not sure what im supposed to be diverting from

Well, you are dismissing IDS's cynical move by saying he is no different from the rest of them. Whether or not you are a Tory, that is diverting attention away from IDS and I am sure he would be grateful for you doing so.
Eh ?

I'm not "diverting" anything

Just found it amusing how much the Labour supporters rant on about how poor the Tories are yet their own previous governements put the country on its knees.

Why is it that when Tory MPs are allowed to campaign for or against EU membership and then one person resigns from the Tory cabinet they are "tearing themselves apart" yet when 7 or 8 resign from the shadow cabinet following Corbyn getting elected its no big deal or to be expected and is brushed off by their supporters?
