A group of six of us are heading to the area this July. Travelling from Leeds / York.

The provisional plan is as follows:

Saturday -Seascale (on the way up. Just happens to have an open that day)
Sunday - Colvend
Monday - Southerness
Tuesday - day off or maybe the 9 holer at Castle Douglas
Wed - Portpatrick (there is an open)
Thur - Kircudbright
Friday - Powfoot
Saturday - Appleby (on the way home)

Any courses I have missed that should be under consideration?

Silloth has been deliberately left off the list due to budgetary constraints.

Thank you in anticipation.

If I were you coming from Dumfries I would play Carlisle (Aglionby) on the way home instead of Appleby. Probably best parkland course in Cumbria. Appleby doesn't really do it for me even though the greens are always top notch.

Silloth do a good twilight rate from 3pm. I’d definitely consider that.

Agree with The Carlisle option, it is class and perhaps Brampton, although a little hilly. Also Penrith.

Whilst Seascale is a great Links course it will be so difficult to get to. Also the drive from Seascale to say Dumfries is a slog. I would take in one of the courses on The M6 Corridor both on the way North and return.
Also Portpatrick and Stranraer are very good

Yeah never thought about getting to and from seascale from the M6. Maybe do Carlisle on the way up instead of seascale as it will be about an hour and a half off the M6 to get to seascale the an hour and a half to get back to the M6 at Carlisle or Penrith

Thanks for all responses. Having taken on board your thoughts and done some more research - our plan has evolved as follows:

Saturday - Brampton
Sunday - Colvend
Monday - Wigtownshire (open comp) AM and Kirkcudbright PM
Tuesday - Castle Douglas or down day
Wednesday - Portpatrick (open comp) AM and Stranraer PM
Thursday - Southerness
Friday - New Galloway or down day
Saturday - Powfoot (open comp)

Not wanting to wish my life away but I really can't wait for the trip to start.

How did this go? I'm a member at two of the clubs listed.

we played Southerness and Powfoot earlier this year and they were both brilliant, we played siloth in the worst weather i've ever experienced on a golf course and i'd love to play that in the dry.

3 super courses. Add in Seascale for the 4 Solway Coast links courses.

Brampton - great course but just too hilly to ever return 7/10
Colvend- very friendly 6/10
Wigtownshire - loved it 8/10
Kirkudbright - quirky 6.5/10
Moffat - a late decision to play. What a hidden gem 9/10
Portpatrick - everyone's favourite 9/10
Stranraer - really enjoyed. Worth it just for elevated drive down to the shoreline 8/10
Southerness - underwhelmed considering it's top 100 ranking 7/10

Unfortunately we missed Powfoot due to illness in the camp.
