Dubai - with a (nearly) 3 year old

Afternoon guys

Am off to Dubai with the Mrs and my son on the 18th of December, coming home on Christmas eve. This means we'll have 5 full days to enjoy ourselves.

We're staying at Fairmont on the palm so are planning 2-3 days of proper relaxation & play by the pool/sea....then 2-3 days seeing Dubai and what it has to offer.

Is there anything we MUST do whilst there?

Bearing in mind the age of my son I was thinking that the mall with the aquarium/under water zoo would be good, Wild Wadi water park, the fountains, go up the Burj....

· Metro: http://dubaimetro.eu/about-dubai-metro - this is about 5 minutes in taxi from us, we used to live nearer but taxis are cheap

· Big Bus Tour http://www.bigbustours.com/eng/dubai/custompage.aspx?id=dubai_sightseeing_tour&gclid (40 pounds each for 24 hours) goes all round Dubai, hop on hop off will take you to many places in Dubai, including some listed below.

· Desert safari http://www.desertsafaridubai.com/ (from 3pm to 10.30pm) (not sure of costs perhaps about 40 pounds each/I think I have a buy one get one free voucher, food and soft drinks included) Cash needed we also use Arabian expeditions

· Oman Dhow Trip http://www.khasabtours.com/excursions.asp (all day 6am to 6pm/3 hours each way on a bus. But absolutely fantastic, about 80 pounds each. Food and soft drinks included) Cash needed

· Jumeriah mosque http://www.cultures.ae/jumeirah_mosque_visit.php (most mornings at 10am costs 1 pound and 80 pence each) well worth it to get some understanding of Islam.

I spent 4 days there a couple of years ago and it's an amazing place, you'll love it. Wild Wadi was awesome, even though the biggest slide was shut when we were there, it was still amazing. Jumeirah's a nice area well worth a look, and if you're looking for a nice restaurant, then Frankie's is immense. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Make use of the Metro. It's pretty cheap and so easy to use. Just hop on and explore as much as you can. Have a great time, I can't wait to get back to Dubai!

Atlantis on the Palm has over a dozen restaurants and all backing onto their massive aquarium. Some do a special nightly (we used the kaleidoscope restaurant as it was buffet and worked out around 40quid a head which was cheaper than normal) where the prices aren't just as harsh (especially when children are concerned). The kaleidoscope has quite a few different counters where you can help yourself to italian, chinese,japanese, indian etc where the other restaurants are more focussed on one type of cuisine.
You dont need to be a resident so just wander in and have dinner each night if you find somewhere you like.
