Driver Shaft Question

I have a 12* Taylormade M6 driver with a 45.75" Atmos Red Senior Shaft (my swing speed is around 80mph). I hit well sometimes, but at other times I have a two-way miss. I'm thinking of trying a shorter shaft. I found a XLR8 Senior Flex shaft that will fit my head. I'm thinking of cutting it down to 44.5". I'd like to know what "the experts" think about this. My hope is it will improve my contact without sacrificing too much distance.

Would never describe myself as an 'expert' but shorter shaft does tend to give more control.

Personally, I find lighter (stiff) shafts - with a smooth swing - have a 'better' distance/accuracy performance. Trying to extract more distance ny swing harder just doesn't work - for me!

I bought and tried a 44.25 inch Matrix 45 gram White Tie shaft for my M2 driver, but I was spraying it about in every direction, with no extra distance with my measly 80mph club head speed.
I sold the driver, but I still have the shaft if anyone fancies it

You will likely read about it changing the swing weight, in reality the best advice is to just give it a try. Our swings are al different, as are what we feel. Plus of course a lot of golf is played between the ears - if you think you may miss less....

The simplest way to experiment with shorter shaft length is to simply grip the club lower down the grip.

I'm a senior who can still hit a regular flex shaft, maybe because my type II diabetes (fat-ass Americans tend to have that) requires me to lift weights to keep my blood glucose levels down.
Between that and walking my dog, that's why I ride a golf cart. There's a limit to how much exercise one will endure.

I use a 13.5º driver with a 43¾" shaft. I can hit the ball longer with a bigger driver....and then not find it as it's not very close to the fairway. Sometimes it's in the middle of an adjacent fairway and then I can find it. Or at least somebody can.

I recommend hitting the longest driver that you can hit with confidence and not go one millimeter longer to get more distance.

Having offered that, I make no claim whatever to being an "expert."

Try playing here in winter rain and wind, soft no run fairways and only 4 or 5 degrees [ on the odd good dry day] you'll lose about 40 yards from your drives. Brings tears to my eyes every year :ROFLMAO:
